BIRMINGHAM – Morgan Halliwill’s header in the 87th minute got past Tennessee Tech keeper Maggie Conrad to lift the Blazers to a 1-0 victory on Thursday night at PNC Field.
With the win, the Blazers (4-2-1) extended their unbeaten streak to five matches while the Golden Eagles are still looking to get into the win column (0-4-2).
Anika Toth notched her second clean sheet of the season and lowered her goals against average to 0.54.
As a team UAB outshot TTU 17-4, with 10 on target. Jolie St Louis had five of those shots while Halliwill, Asha Zuniga and Anais Oularbi each had two.
The goal began when Hannah Clark had possession on the left side. She crossed inside the box to find Halliwill who out-jumped Conrad to place the ball into the left side of the net.
“It’s great to win a game, but a little extra special when you win it that close to the end,” said head coach Lisa Mann. “I’m very proud of the girls, we kept going and going and going tonight and we finally get the winner at the end.”
Up next, the Blazers wrap up nonconference play at South Alabama Sept. 10. The Jaguars (6-0-1) tied Mississippi State earlier this evening. The next home match marks the start of AAC play when UAB hosts Charlotte Sept. 14.
