Late Comeback Highlights Split Against Purdue

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FAU softball team worked a split against Purdue on Friday in the first day of the Owls’ Parents’ Weekend Tournament. After dropping game one by a 13-5 final, the Owls rallied to take a 3-1 win in game two.


GAME TWO

Purdue led in a pitcher’s duel, 1-0, in the sixth inning. Myah Murray and Sara Berthiaume each got one with a base hit, then moved up on a groundout. Zoey Jones came up with two on and two out, and just missed a go-ahead double just inches outside the left field line. Jones remained poised and delivered a clutch base knock to center field to score two and give FAU (9-10) the lead.

Caryssa Orland delivered an insurance run with an RBI single that scored her sister Cameryn OrlandGabby Sacco finished off a gem in the circle. Her third complete game lifted her record to 5-2 on the year. The freshman allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out two.

GAME ONE

In game one, the Boilermakers jumped out to an early 9-1 lead. Berthiaume ripped her first home run of the season, a solo shot to right field. It was her third of her career, and she added a double onto her line in game one.

The Owls will resume Parents’ Weekend tomorrow against Delaware and Illinois State. Game one is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
