LA Tech’s Robertson A First Team All-American

December 09, 2019

RUSTON, La.  – Louisiana Tech junior cornerback Amik Robertson was voted to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Team, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

As a first team selection, Robertson put together a spectacular junior campaign, leading the nation in 19 forced incompletions. The Thibodaux, Louisiana, native ranks second in the nation with 21 total passes defended in 2019, and it tied for sixth with five interceptions.

Robertson has played in 38 games over his three seasons in Ruston, and has recorded 48 passes defended over that span (tied for second most among FBS active career leaders). His 14 career interceptions are most among all active FBS players, and his three INTs returned for touchdowns lead the nation as well.

According to PFF College, Robertson held opposing quarterbacks to a 53.7 passer rating in his primary coverage. He committed just two penalties all year, and was graded out as the nation’s top cornerback with a coverage grade of 91.3.

He was also named to PFF’s All-America Team as well as its All Conference-USA Team for the 2019 season.

Robertson captains a Tech defense that ranks second in the nation in red zone defense (.647) and fourth in C-USA in scoring defense at 23.7 points per game. Robertson is fourth on the Bulldogs with 60 total tackles this season, and has racked up 184 total tackles (138 solo, 23.0 TFL) for his career.

In possibly his signature game of the 2019 season, Robertson intercepted then C-USA passing leader Jack Abraham three times en route to a Tech 45-30 comeback win over Southern Miss. His three interceptions in a single game tied a program-record and earned him National Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The entire 2019 All-America class will be released on Thursday, December 19.
