Kennedy Adds AD Diedhiou to Roster

BIRMINGHAM – UAB head men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy has announced the addition AD Diedhiou (pronounced DAY-zhou) to the roster.

“We are excited to have AD join our program,” said Kennedy. “A true newcomer to basketball, he has made huge strides in his individual development over his two seasons at Odessa College under Head Coach Kris Baumann. AD is a big, strong, athletic presence in the paint who will aid our front court immediately.”

The Dakar, Senegal native is a 6-10 forward who comes to UAB from Odessa Junior College where he averaged 6.4 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game and recorded 24 blocks while shooting 63% from the field in 2020-21. He was named to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference squad.

Diedhiou led Odessa to a 20-3 overall record and the NJCAA District 5 regular season title with a 13-1 record.

The Wranglers finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA and were the No. 7 seed in the NJCAA D1 Men’s Basketball Championship.

He was a teammate at Odessa with Elijah Tate, who signed with the Blazers earlier this month.

Diedhiou joins Jamal Johnson, KJ Buffen, Tyreke Locure, Justin Brown and Tate as the newcomers on the roster.
