The net-minder tallied his second career shutout on Saturday at Temple; JT Copper named to weekly Honor roll.

IRVING, Texas (Oct. 11, 2021) – University of South Florida men’s soccer standout Kazuna Takase has been named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10, the league announced on Monday. It is Takase’s second conference Player of the Week honor of his career. Also, freshman Jeffrey “JT” Copper was selected to The American weekly honor roll.

South Florida recorded its first conference win of the season with a dominating 3-0 victory at Temple on Saturday night. The Bulls held the upper hand from the opening kickoff on both ends of the field, outshooting the Owls 13-8 on the night and 6-4 in shots on goal.

Takase, a junior from Tomoto, Japan, played in his first match since Sept. 6 at Clemson (due to injury) and recorded his second shutout of the season and the second of his career. Takase turned in a season-high-tying four saves in 90 minutes of action in his third match of the year.

Copper scored his second goal of the season, and first since Sept. 10 vs. Stetson. The Tampa native netted his goal on his only shot of the match in the 44’ minute of play. Copper is tied for second on the team in scoring with five points (2g, 1a).

The Bulls return to Corbett Stadium on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. against Memphis on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The meeting with the Tigers begins a short two-match homestand that will end on Oct. 22 when No. 10/14 SMU visits Corbett.
