Kayla DiCello Signs with Gator Gymnastics Team

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – World Championships’ all-around bronze medalist Kayla DiCello signed with the Gator gymnastics team, UF head coach Jenny Rowland announced today.

DiCello is the fifth U.S. gymnast who earned a World Championships’ all-around medal to sign with a collegiate program. Of the other four, three have Gator ties. Gator Great Bridget Sloan (2013-16) was the first World Championships’ all-around gold medalist to compete as a collegiate. The upcoming season’s Gator roster includes two more – Leanne Wong (2021 World silver) and January enrollee Morgan Hurd (2017 World gold; 2018 bronze).

About DiCello:
A member of the U.S. Senior National Team since 2019-20, DiCello traveled to Tokyo in July as a replacement athlete for the Summer Olympics. She returned to Japan last month as part of the U.S.’s four member team for the World Championships. In addition to her Worlds’ all-around bronze, DiCello advanced to the event finals for balance beam and floor exercise.

This summer, DiCello was floor runner-up at the U.S. Championships. She took fifth on floor and was sixth for all-around and balance beam at the U.S. Olympic Trials. DiCello took second in the 2020 American Cup all-around in her U.S. Senior international debut.  In her final season as a junior competitor, DiCello won the 2019 U.S. Championships all-around, vault and floor titles and was third  on beam.

Jenny Rowland Said:
“Gators gymnastics is thrilled to welcome Kayla to the Gator family. Family is such an important component in Kayla’s life and we look forward to opening our arms to welcome her and her family into our Gator family.

“Kayla has competed at the highest level, including the Olympics and World Championship level. And now she will be competing in the O’Dome in Orange and Blue. She is ready to rock it and Gator Nation is in for a huge treat.” – Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland

Kayla DiCello Said:
“I chose to be a Florida Gator because it has always been my dream school. When I toured the University of Florida, I loved the atmosphere and it felt like home. I’m looking forward to being a part of such an amazing team, having the Gator chomp in my floor routine and driving a Vespa. Go Gators!”- Kayla DiCello
