JOSH EVANS RETIRES AS A JAGUAR

Josh Evans, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ sixth-round draft pick out of Florida in 2013, has announced his retirement from the National Football League. Evans played three seasons for the Jaguars, from 2013-2015, before completing his NFL career with the Washington Football Team.

Evans, 30, started at free safety or strong safety in 37 of the 47 games he played for the Jaguars over three seasons, making 196 tackles and recovering three fumbles. As a rookie in 2013 Evans made 11 starts with 54 tackles. He ranked third on the team with 90 tackles in his second season, playing in all 16 games and starting 14, while also sharing the team lead with two fumble recoveries. In 2015 Evans started 12 games and finished with 52 tackles.

“I appreciated my time here in Jacksonville playing for the Jaguars, and I felt it was only right that I announce my retirement from football as a member of the Jaguars family,” Evans said. “I look forward to remaining involved along with other alumni through the NFL Legends Community. And I want to say thank you to the fans for their support.”

A native of Irvington, NJ, Evans played quarterback and safety at Irvington High School, where he was named all-state and the county player of the year, before signing with Florida and moving to Gainesville. Playing his first two seasons under Head Coach Urban Meyer, he started 24 of 47 games played for the Gators from 2009-2012 and completed his college career with 154 tackles, five interceptions and 3.5 sacks. He earned three letters and majored in criminology while at Florida.

LIONS RELEASE LS DON MUHLBACH

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have released LS Don Muhlbach.

STATEMENT FROM LIONS PRINCIPAL OWNER AND CHAIR SHEILA FORD HAMP

“Don Muhlbach will go down as one of the all-time Detroit Lions greats. Since joining our team as a free agent in 2004, to earning the respect of his teammates as a team captain, he has represented our organization with class, consistency and true sportsmanship. His 260 career games played, the second-most in team history behind only Jason Hanson, illustrate the dedication to his craft he has displayed over the course of his 17 seasons. Only 36 players in the history of the National Football League have played in more games than Don, and we are proud to call him a Lion for life.
Away from the field, Don has been the consummate leader. Often assisting behind the scenes with the planning and execution of team philanthropic initiatives, Don’s passion for making a difference in our city has been evident since the day he set foot in Detroit. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of his family, and we wish him, his wife, Alix, and their three children, Addison, Jack and Avery, the very best in the future. We are so thankful for everything Don has given to our organization.”—Muhlbach’s 17 seasons and 260 career games played with the Lions rank second in franchise history, behind only K Jason Hanson. His 260 career games rank 37th on the Top 50 list for all-time career games played in NFL history, and also rank as the eighth-most a player has played with a single club in NFL history.
Originally entering the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Texas A&M in 2004, Muhlbach signed with the Lions midway through the 2004 season.
