Jasiak Strikes Out 11 as Bulls Fall to Northeastern

The Bulls pitching staff combines for 20 strikeouts in doubleheader loss to Northeastern, 10-0 & 2-0

TAMPA (Feb. 22, 2020) – The USF baseball team fell to Northeastern in a doubleheader Saturday, 10-0 and 2-0.

The Bulls (2-5) fell behind to the Huskies (2-3), 1-0, in the first. Northeastern then plated five runs in the fifth to jump out to a demanding lead in the first game of the doubleheader.

USF loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the sixth, but failed to score. The Bulls finished with nine runners left on base. USF drew five walks throughout the first game.

Collin Sullivan (Randolph, Mass.) suffered the loss on the hill for the Bulls allowing four runs on seven hits through 4.1 innings.

It was a pitcher’s duel in the second game, with both starters throwing over seven innings. Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill, Fla.) finished with 11 strikeouts through 7.1 innings. The freshman right-hander has a combined 20 strikeouts through two starts in the season.

Northeastern took the lead in the sixth, scoring on an error by Dylan Buck (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.). The Huskies then plated another run in the eighth to lead, 2-0.

Jasiak took the loss on the mound for USF, falling to 0-1 on the season.

Notable

·        Daniel Cantu (Saint Johns, Fla.) earned his first career hit in the second game of the doubleheader.

·        Logan Lyle (Bartow, Fla.) made his team-leading fourth appearance.

·        Nick Gonzalez (Tampa, Fla.) stole his team-high fourth stolen base of the season.

·        Jack Jasiak tossed 11 strikeouts for the Bulls for the first time since March 22, 2019.
