Jaguars vs. Jets Postgame Transcript: Jets QB Sam Darnold

(On the lull in performance after the first drive) “I think that’s just it, you know, we just didn’t execute the way we wanted to after that drive. Really good drive to start the game, obviously. And for whatever reason, we lost rhythm and didn’t execute.”

(On the [Jets] offense being on different pages even when it’s Week 8) “I don’t know. I think, first of all, I’ve got to play better. I didn’t play nearly as good enough as I can or should. So, I’ve just got to play better, and from my perspective, we’ve just got to look at the tape and try to correct as many things as we can and try to fix those mistakes in practice.”

(On getting sacked 8 times and operating under pressure) “It’s about getting the ball out. I’ve got to do a better job of getting the ball out and getting it into playmakers’ hands.”

(On this game being on the heels of the Patriots game and the offense functioning badly) “Yeah, I think that – two of my worst games ever. So it’s hard, but at the same time, I’ve just got to come back to work next week.”

(On not letting that affect his confidence) “I’ve just got to go out there and keep playing, keep practicing and keep studying. And move on to the next week and prepare as hard as I can to beat the next opponent.”

(On the long interception that CB A.J Bouye caught and Head Coach Adam Gase saying it was a bad call on him) “I’ve just got to be smarter. He was playing over the top, clearly, and I threw it up just to try to get the ball in play and give our guy a chance and it backfired.”

(On the issue with his thumb) “I don’t know what happened to it, but it didn’t have any effect on me. It was when I scrambled and lost the ball out of bounds.”

(On the ghost references during the game) “Well, it is what it is. It didn’t affect me. It’s just a silly thing for social media and fans to be able to try to use it against you. But for me, I was just playing bad because I did. I just wasn’t executing out there, I wasn’t playing the balls where they needed to be and – it wasn’t about that, though.”

(On the 1-6 record and how the team is feeling) “We’ve just got to keep preparing, keep grinding every single week. You know, every opponent is a bigger opponent, obviously, and we’ve just got to keep trying to get wins, one week at a time.”

(On whether his timing is off at all) “No, I just, for some reason, I just didn’t throw the ball as well in these last couple games. I’ve just got to continue to practice hard and get better.”
