JAGUARS SIGN QB NICK FOLES AS UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed eighth-year QB and Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles as an unrestricted free agent, the club announced today.

“It’s really nice to officially be a part of the Jacksonville Jaguars and to be here and get to work,” Foles said. “This is the perfect place. This is where we wanted to be and obviously Jacksonville wanted my family and me, as well. It worked out great, and we are really excited.”

Foles, 30, has appeared in 54 games with 44 starts in his seven-year career. The Austin, Texas native was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round (88th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft, where he played the first three years of his career (2012-14), as well as the last two seasons (2017-18). Foles has also played for the St. Louis Rams (2015) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2016). Over the past two seasons (2017-18), including the postseason, his 76.9 winning percentage in his 13 starts (10-3) is the highest among QBs with multiple starts.

In 2018, Foles started five games in the regular season and completed 141 of 195 passes (72.3 comp. pct.) for 1,413 yards and seven TDs. The Eagles went 4-1 in Foles’ five regular season starts, including three straight victories to conclude the season and earn a spot in the postseason. His 108.4 QB rating in December was the highest among QBs to play at least three games. In the 2018 postseason, Foles completed 43 of 71 passes (60.6 comp. pct.) for 467 yards and three TDs, including 266 yards and two TDs at Chicago in Philadelphia’s Wild Card victory.

Foles started the final three games of the 2017 regular season and all three postseason games for the Eagles. He completed 77 of 106 passes (72.6 comp. pct.) for 971 yards and six TDs in the postseason, registering a 100-plus passer rating in all three games. He recorded the highest completion percentage (72.6) and the third-highest passer rating (115.7) with a minimum of 100 attempts in a single postseason. Foles threw for 373 yards and three TDs and added a 1-yard TD reception in the Eagles’ 41-33 victory against the Patriots in Super Bowl LII, earning Super Bowl LII MVP honors.

Prior to re-joining Philadelphia in 2017, Foles played for the St. Louis Rams in 2015 and the Chiefs in 2016. After being drafted by the Eagles in 2012, he earned Pro Bowl honors following the 2013 season after he posted a league-leading and franchise-record 119.2 QB rating, throwing for 2,891 yards and 27 TDs with just two INTs on 203 of 317 passing (64.0 comp. pct.). Over the last 10 NFL seasons (2009-18), Foles is one of three players (Tom Brady in 2016 and Aaron Rodgers in 2018) to turn in a season with at least 25 TDs and two-or-fewer INTs.

Foles attended the University of Arizona and finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in pass attempts (1,369), completions (933), passing yards (10,011) and TDs (67). As a senior in 2011, he earned honorable mention All-Pac 12 honors after throwing for a school single-season record 4,334 yards and 28 TDs. Foles transferred to Arizona after beginning his career at Michigan State.

A native of Austin, Texas, Foles attended Westlake (Austin, Texas) High School where he played both football and basketball. In 2018, he authored the New York Times bestseller, “Believe It,” which covered his journey of success and overcoming the odds. He was born Jan. 20, 1989 and can be found on Twitter at @NickFoles. He and his wife, Tori, have one daughter, Lily.
