Jaguars Sign QB C.J. Beathard and LIONS SIGN LB ALEX ANZALONE AND WR DAMION RATLEY

JAGUARS SIGN QUARTERBACK C.J. BEATHARD

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed fifth-year QB C.J. Beathard (pronounced BETH-urd), the club announced today.

Beathard, 6-2, 215, has played all four of his NFL seasons in San Francisco, where the 49ers selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 19 games with 12 starts and completed 291-of-497 passes for 3,469 yards and 18 TDs. He has also rushed for 233 yards and four TDs on the ground. Most recently, he played in six games with two starts in 2020 and completed 66-of-104 attempts for 787 yards and six TDs in 2020.

Prior to his time in the Bay Area, Beathard attended the University of Iowa and played in 41 games, completing 454-of-782 passes for 5,562 yards and 40 TDs. Beathard accumulated several honors during his time in Iowa City, including team captain, Academic All-Big Ten, the Hayden Fry Award (most valuable player on offense) and the “Extra Heartbeat” Award.

Beathard’s grandfather, Bobby Beathard, spent 38 years working in the NFL, including 22 seasons as general manager of Washington (1978-88) and San Diego (1989-2000), and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018. Beathard’s brother, Tucker, is a country music singer, and his father, Casey, is a country music songwriter and has co-written singles for artists such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Kenny Chesney and Eric Church.

The Franklin, Tenn. native became a father in December 2016 when his daughter, Lyla, was born.

Allen Park, Mich.— 
The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent LB Alex Anzalone and free agent WR Damion Ratley. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.
Anzalone comes to Detroit after spending the first four seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints, who selected him in the third round (76th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Florida.
In 38 career games (20 starts), he has posted 122 total tackles, 4.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception.
Ratley joins the Lions after playing in five games for the New York Giants in 2020, before ending the season with the Houston Texans. He originally entered the NFL with the Cleveland Browns as a sixth-round selection (175th overall) in the 2018 Draft out of Texas A&M. He has appeared in 31 career games (six) starts and has recorded 29 receptions, 407 receiving yards and one touchdown.
