Jaguars Re-Sign DL Dawuane Smoot

JACKSONVILLE– The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed fourth-year DL Dawuane Smoot, the team announced today.

Smoot has appeared in 56 games (seven starts) in his four seasons (2017-20) in Jacksonville and registered 61 tackles, 11.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. In 2020, he saw action in all 16 games and registered a team-high 5.5 sacks. In the final five games of the season, Smoot recorded 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles. Smoot posted a career-best 6.0 sacks in 2019. 

A Groveport, Ohio native, Smoot was selected by the Jaguars in the third round (68th overall) of the 2017 draft. He attended Illinois from 2013-16 and finished his career with 24 consecutive starts. He was named team captain as a senior and started 12 games at defensive tackle where he recorded 56 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss

He and his wife, Aumari, have one son, Ahmir. The Smoot family has established a personal connection with Jacksonville Arts & Music School, including working with students to help design his footwear for the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign.  In February 2021, Smoot helped fund and teach a course that allows kids to build their own personal computer.
