JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted second-year CBParry Nickerson from the practice squad to the active roster, the club announced today. To make room, the Jaguars waived first-year CB Breon Borders. The Jaguars also filled Nickerson’s spot on the practice squad by signing third-year RBPaul Perkins.
Nickerson, 5-10, 182, was originally drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and recorded 19 tackles (16 solo) and one pass defensed. After spending the 2019 training camp with the New York Jets, Nickerson was traded to the Seahawks on Aug. 31, 2019 and spent Weeks 2-6 on Seattle’s practice squad before being released on Oct. 15. Nickerson was signed by the Jaguars on Oct. 17, waived by the club on Oct. 21, then signed to Jacksonville’s practice squad on Oct. 23.
Nickerson played collegiately at Tulane, where he finished his college career with 16 INTs, the second-most in school history. His 31 career pass breakups rank third in school history. As a senior in 2017, he totaled 55 tackles and six INTs and was named a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist. He attended West Jefferson (New Orleans, La.) High School and was named first-team all-state as a senior. He will wear No. 35 for the Jaguars.
Perkins, 5-11, 213, was originally selected by the New York Giants in the fifth-round (149th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft and has appeared in 29 career games in the NFL, including 25 for the Giants (2016-18) and four for the Detroit Lions (2019). Perkins became a free agent on Nov. 18, 2019 when he was waived from Detroit’s active roster.
