(On being back on the field healthy) “Just getting my feet up under me. It’s been kind of
weird when you don’t play football, especially when you have a new defensive back coach
[Defensive Pass Game Coordinator Mathieu Araujo] and he’s very technical so just making
sure that we get everything in individual right. Still messing it up, but just keep chopping
away at it, trying to get better at it and continue to get better. Getting my footing and stuff
like that.”
(On his health) “I feel good. It’s just about trusting it. Trusting the way I break, trusting the
way I process, going out there and playing. Just getting those faculties back, getting that
feel back, that instinct back and putting a consistent camp together. Just being healthy,
that’s really what I want to focus on and doing the technique right and being out here to put
my best foot forward for the team.”
(On being in his second year in the system) “Yeah, it’s the growth, honestly. We had a lot of
young guys have to step up and go out there and play, but just the growth that they have
stepping into the system and understanding what they want, what the coaches want from
them schematic-wise and physically, going out there and performing. I feel like we’re just
building on what we did last year and we have the right staff and the right guys to go out
there and compete with anybody and go out there and win a lot of games. So, it feels good
to be in the system consistently since I haven’t been in the same system since 2023. I know
how these young guys feel. I know they’re excited to be in the same system and have the
right guys around them to make sure that they flourish and, and, and, and get better.
(On CB Jarrian Jones growth) “Just the mental aspect of it. Being able to continue to
perform like that because he has all the physical tools and the techniques to be a great
player, which he is. He’s already a great player, but it’s just that next step. Mentally locking
in and just being consistent, not worrying about anybody else’s process or anything else to
mess up his process. Just keep his process, his process, and take it day-by-day. I think he’s
going to be one of the most dominant corners in all of football. I really think he’s that good.”

(On the versatility in the defensive backs room) “That’s just a testament to our coaching.
Coach Camp [Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile], Coach Matt [Defensive Pass
Game Coordinator Mathieu Araujo], Coach Perk [Defensive Backs Coach Anthony Perkins],
teaching everybody, how to play dime, how to play nickel, how to play corner and safety.
Making sure that we all know the scheme on the back end and know where our help is and
where everybody is on specific plays and different calls and different concepts. So, that’s
just a testament to our coaching, being able to go out there and teach everybody what to
do and everybody else’s position because that makes us a better unit as a whole. Like you
said, we have a lot of versatility and a lot of guys that have the aptitude to go out there and
learn it and go out there and produce.”
(On WR/CB Travis Hunter’s growth) “Absolutely. I told him yesterday, he’s a beast, man.
Going back and forth. You got camp two times, man, because you have to do it as a receiver
and a corner, and I think he’s handled it really well. I haven’t seen it, going full-time on both
sides, and I think he’s doing an excellent job of it. He’s taking the coaching on defense, the
techniques. It’s definitely different than last year. It’s very technical, as far as corner play,
and I think he’s doing a really good job of it, taking it in stride. And of course, we all know
he’s the exceptional athlete that he is. Just his mind, it impresses me. Just being able to do
it all and understand where he needs to be mentally.”
(On S Caleb Ransaw’s potential) “He’s a physical freak too, man. He’s a physical freak. He
just got to get his footing under him. Like a lot of guys, just having those reps are invaluable.
Being out there and putting pads on for the first time, it’s going to be different. It’s unique. I
think we got our heads kicked in today, but it’s just a learning experience for all of us. It’s,
like I said, man, I say this all the time, it’s a new team every year, and you just have to find
ways to get better on that new team.”
(On how CB Montaric ‘Buster’ Brown can take that next step) “He’s our number one, man.
That’s what I feel like he was last year when he stepped into that role. I feel like his
confidence is getting better. We just have to always have that consistently. His belief, it’s
gotten way better, his belief in his abilities, man. He’s long, strong, and he can run. So, just
believing that if he just uses his technique, he’s going to be one of the best. I really
appreciate the work that he’s always putting in. He’s always been a hard worker, but it’s his
growth with his confidence that, I’m really impressed with.”
(On the team’s success creating takeaways last season) “That’s being coached. We’re
being coached to take the ball away. High pointing the ball, making sure that the receiver

can’t make a catch, make a play on the ball in the air, we’re been coached to do that.
Everything that you see, all the turnovers, everything that we’re doing, being ball hungry,
that’s getting coached. And we have the talent to go out there and do it every single week,
as you saw last year. When we came out here at OTAs last year, I knew, like, wow, we got
some guys that can go take the ball away. Just like this year. OTAs and training camp, we
just have to fine tune some of our detailed things, but we have the talent to take the ball
away.”
(On this season’s goals) “We want to be the best. That’s all we striving to be, the best. Being
the best that we can be, which I think could be the best in the league. So, going out there
and handling our business is going out there and being the best. And if that’s anything short
of that, we didn’t handle our business. I think we can be the best in the league at taking the
ball away and being one of the best defenses, statistically in the league.”
(On today’s practice) “It felt like we were overthinking. We were overthinking about it. Just
some of the detailed things that we did over the last few days kind of slipped. Especially,
me. A lot of times I’m talking from my perspective, as a leader. It just slipped today. You can
see that going through all of the guys from the younger to the older guys, I need to bring
that discipline and that intentionality to our practices. So, it was just like I said, the
intentionality, of being detailed. It was just, oh, we, we got pads on, let’s go hit, let’s go get
our hands on them, instead of just being on our details.”

(On the first day of pads) “We did obviously one-on-ones for the first time today with the
pads on. I thought those guys did a nice job of getting some work in while protecting each
other. And then, one-on-ones in the mamba, I thought, was nice as well. I thought we got
some good quality work. Good to see some of those guys make some plays one-on-one in
those situations. Have to go back and look at the protection, but it felt somewhat clean.
That’ll ramp up more. We’ll continue to get more of that good-on-good work, as we get the
pads on and are in pads more consistently.”
(On RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. with the first day of pads on) “Yeah, I mean, he did kind of what
you think he’s going to do in a way, right? I mean, I don’t think he meant to necessarily—I
don’t think he even really lowered his shoulder on Caleb [S Caleb Ransaw]. It was just one
of those hits. And, yeah, he showed up, which is kind of what you’re hoping. I think he was
feeling better. He’s continuously getting better, and we’re just trying to be smart with, all
right, getting him to work, getting him acclimated while not trying to aggravate it, knowing
that we’re so early on. And I know he was excited about getting the pads on.”
(On if he likes working in the rain) “Yeah. I mean, it’s like, its football, right? It has to be an
edge for us here in Florida. And knowing that, shoot, last year, we had a delay and all that in
Week 1, and we’ve got to get that working. Now with some of the other—the one-on-one
pass game, that would’ve been a waste of time to do out here. So, we wanted to make sure
we got clean work in there. It was some good work. And these guys, they don’t care, right?
They want to just play, and they’d prefer to stay outside on the grass than go inside. You’re
concerned, you’re just, hey, anchoring, guys anchoring and slipping out, whatever. But it’s
football. I mean, stuff happens.”
(On moving around OL Anton Harrison) “Yeah, I think he’s done a nice job. I mean, it’s part
of what we’ve done, moving those guys around and seeing what sticks. And if that ends up
sticking, hopefully that’s a good thing for us. I think he’s put together five good practices so
far that you’re pleased with seeing the consistency. That’s something that we’re

continuously challenging not just Anton with, but that entire unit and group is just
consistency. Consistent effort, consistent technique, consistent finish. But I’ve been
pleased with him just handling it pretty seamlessly so far.”
(On DT Ruke Orhorhoro) “Yeah, I though Ruke did a nice job today. I thought he flashed
more today than maybe in some of the previous days. I think he might have had two sacks
in the mamba period on the first two plays of his rack. So, nice to see him flash. It’s always
a little bit more realistic when you get the pads on. I mean, the whole thing is, like, pass pro
sucks with no pads on. It just does. So, it’s nice to see him win when you’re expecting the
pass rush to maybe be a little less than it’s been because of the pads being on. So, that was
nice to see him flash. And I mean, we talked about B.J. [DE B.J. Green II] flashing and some
of those. I thought Danny [DE Danny Striggow] flashed a little bit today as well. So, we need
those guys to continuously give us some meaningful reps.”
(On WR Brian Thomas Jr. stacking good days) “The connection, man. The chemistry
between not just he and Trevor [QB Trevor Lawrence], but us, right? Me as a coach, as a
play caller, the rest of the group, the entire team’s confidence and swagger that brings.
When you can throw the ball over somebody’s head, it’s a threat, man. And it’s something
that we need. We need not just him to be able to do that but win on some of the other reps.
He’s run a lot of routes out here that maybe weren’t getting targeted to him that he’s won as
well that I’ve been pleased with. So, I think it brings everybody up. It elevates everybody’s
game when BT [WR Brian Thomas Jr.] is playing at his highest level.”
(On WR/CB Travis Hunter making plays on both sides of the ball yesterday) “Yeah, that was
good. I mean, just coming off of what he’s gone through to come out and make an impact
fairly early on, right? And, for the first time, probably since we’ve all been together was, like,
back-to-back, right? Making a play on offense, then on defense, then back on offense. That
was really, I think, great for everybody to see, not just the fans and the exposure, all that.
That’s great. It’s more just for his confidence and his comfort level, getting back out on the
grass with his teammates, competing, and for them all to see him compete like that.”
(On if he finds something new about his receiving core every practice) “I think we’re at a
point where we are getting to know each other more. I mean, today, Jakobi [WR Jakobi
Meyers] had a really good one-on-one fade down the sideline, and so it’s like, okay, we’ve
got to get him going more on some of those vertical routes and not limiting his tree to some
of those in-breakers that we all know that he’s really good at. We’ve got to make sure that
we’re giving him complementary cuts, whether it’s out or vertical, so that he can, when
you’re playing the game within the game, you’re not feeling like people are leaning on you

one way or another based on your strengths or your weaknesses. So, yeah, we are learning
stuff about these guys on a day-to-day basis, and what I’ve been pleased with, and I told
them this before we got going, was we threw the ball a lot in the spring. And that was the
intent, that was what we were trying to do. And I told them, ‘Man, there’s going to be a little
bit less targets to go around in training camp,’ because, like, in team run, we’re going to run
it three out of four plays. So, you’re just limiting the amount of reps. I think what they’ve
done is maximize the reps that they’re getting and being very intentional about the
connection and chemistry that they have.”
(On areas the team is working on to improve the run game) “Yeah, just being thicker on
combinations a little bit. Sometimes, based on the scheme, the O-Line will think they have
to maybe get on an angle because of where the ball’s going. Say it’s outside zone, they feel
like they just have to run because it’s outside. Well, no, let’s take care of the down first and
be a little bit thicker through combinations so that we’re moving the line of scrimmage. I
think that’s something that we’ve been very intentional about, whether it’s with wide zone,
mid-zone, duo; those are the only three plays we have in right now. Just being more
intentional about chipping on our combinations and being a little bit more vertical so that
we’re not just running, all right, sideline to sideline, and getting thinned out on the at the
line of scrimmage and the point of attack. So, I think that that’s something that those guys
have worked diligently on since the spring. And once you get into training camp, you’re able
to see it a little bit more.”
(On TE Nate Boerkircher) “I’ve actually been pleased with him. Running routes that he
doesn’t get a target on, or he’s not the primary route runner on. He’s going to be more than
fine in terms of what he’s going to be able to do, whether it’s targeting him or not, fitting in
the progressions and being there. He’ll be more than fine with us being able to go whether
he’s in an 11 or 12 and he’s the Y, and he’s opposite Brenton [TE Brenton Strange] or
whatever it is, and you’re able to be able to mix those things up. I’m more than pleased with
what he’s able to do from a route tree standpoint.”
(On if practice is more fluid this year) “That’s right. Yeah. It’s a lot more—last year when we
scripted practices, I would just script the offense, Campy [Defensive Coordinator Anthony
Campanile] would script the defense and just roll the ball out and go play. I think this
training camp, we’ve been much more intentional about making sure that we, offensively,
especially with the 1O versus maybe 2D, me asking for some specific fronts, getting the
runs off of where we would have the intent to do that, right? And so, you’re not just walking
out days one through four and running a run that you would never run against maybe that
look. Now, you don’t want to go too far that way because then you’re taking away the

element of just playing football. But, hey, let’s get a little bit more looks at running at a three
or a shade or versus single-high, whatever it is. I think we’ve done a nice job as coaches
and the players following suit of being intentional about the way we script practice.”
(On CB Jourdan Lewis’s presence on the field) “Yeah, I do. I think we all notice when J-Lew’s
out there in terms of the communication, the confidence, his ability to get everybody on the
same page. He’s feisty. He brings a mentality and toughness. He had a rep the other day, in
the run game, where a tight end was trying to block him. I forget which one. And he locked,
shed, made the play, and he just brings a mentality and toughness to our defense.”
(On if the team is experimenting with anything) “Absolutely. There’s some things in the run
game specifically that we’ve maybe looked at throughout the offseason from some of the
teams that we studied that we are experimenting with right now. Defensively, there’s some
disguises and things that we’re experimenting with as well. And then in the pass game,
there have been a few concepts that we’ve already installed that maybe weren’t a priority
last year that we maybe ended up gravitating towards, or maybe that fit as a really good
complement to what we’ve done well. So, yeah, this is not the exact same install as training
camp last year, by any means. I think there’s so much more in right now, especially with the
first group. And we’ve definitely experimented with some schemes and concepts and some
fundamentals that when you watch the offseason, you self-scout yourself, and then you
look around the league, and we do that exactly back-to-back. So, when we watch all of our
wide zones, we watch, let’s call it 100 of them. Directly underneath are the top, let’s call it,
three to five teams around the league that we felt ran wide zone the best. And then they’re
cut up and exactly underneath that as well. So, it’s like, you get to see you, and you get to
see the best that are doing that exact concept. So, whether it’s scheme, truly the concept,
or a fundamental of how they’re doing it, well, hey, does that fit us? And we’re trying some
of those things now, yeah.”
(On if he has a training camp competition with Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile)
“Do we? I’m not sure. Maybe it’s a weight loss challenge. I think he’s trying to cut down a
little bit, but he’s strong, man. I mean, you get in the weight room, that dude can push some
weight. He likes to show off, wearing, like, these cutoff sleeves. I can’t quite do that. We’re
trying to get in the weight room a little bit more together.”
