(On how his foot feels) “Feeling better today than I was yesterday and Monday. A little bit of the
soreness is going down a little bit. Obviously still sore and taking it day by day, but fortunate, for sure. I
feel pretty good.”
(On if he has to keep it elevated during the day) “Yeah, obviously you want to try to keep it elevated and
rested as much as you can, just let it heal up. Like I said, it’s just day by day, see how it feels, get as much
treatment as possible, stay off of it when you can, all that stuff that we’ve been doing and will continue
to do throughout the week.”
(On how the injury initially was thought to be a knee and ended up a toe) “I thought it was my knee at
first, just the way I got twisted. I really thought it was my knee. That’s why I kind of grabbed it on the
field. It just scared me more than anything because it bent a way it’s probably not supposed to bend.
Then when I was laying there, my knee was hurting a little bit, and I felt my toe a little bit, too, but my
first concern was my knee, so I was laying there, trainers came up and were checking everything, asked
me if it hurt. I was like, actually when they were moving it, it didn’t really hurt too bad, so that made me
feel better. When I got up and started moving around, my toe was hurting. Then from there, obviously
after the game and Monday morning I woke up and it was really sore, stiffened up on me. I kind of
dodged a bullet for sure on that hit.”
(On if today was the first day he’s been in shoes) “I’ve worn shoes off and on. I kind of wore the other
shoe just to keep that toe from bending as much as possible just to protect it and let it heal without
stretching it any more. I wear that when I’m not having to work out and do some treatments and stuff
like that. I’ve tried to wear that as much as I can then obviously today kind of wearing tennis shoes.”
(On if in his mind, he is playing this weekend) “Yeah, that’s the plan. Like I said, all I can do is take it day
by day, and if I can, I’ll be out there.”
(On if that’s the biggest injury scare he’s ever gotten) “Yeah, I would say so. I’ve had a relatively healthy
career, thankfully. Definitely, kind of the way my leg got caught, it scared me when I was out there.
Thankful that it’s nothing major, really, really fortunate. Thankful for that.”
(On how he prepares for a game with only mental reps if he does not get on the practice field this week)
“Our offense is what it is. We do other things week to week that changes, but it’s really mostly about
seeing the looks, practicing calling the plays, going through my footwork, my steps, all my checks
whether that’s run game, passing game, all those things so I’m sharp mentally so when I do come back
on the field, that’s not something that I have to catch up on because I’ve already got the reps in my
head. Maybe just get a couple throws and rep a couple things that are a little unique this week, but for
the most part, mentally, I’m going to stay in it. I’m completely going to stay in it mentally, but you can

do a lot of the work that way because you kind of play all the scenarios out in your head, and that’s kind
of what we did today, so that was good.”
(On if he would still feel comfortable playing Sunday if he didn’t practice at all this week) “I haven’t done
that before. I don’t know the last time I missed a practice. It’s kind of uncharted territory for me, but I
think as long as I feel good enough to go out there and run and cut and do what I need to do to play and
put us in a good situation, I would feel comfortable being out there. I’m going to get all the reps
mentally throughout the week and do what I can as the week progresses.”
(On if COVID-19 was the last time he missed a practice) “Yeah, would’ve been covid. That’s right.”
(On having a concussion before that) “Yeah, my freshman year. You guys are on it.”
(On if he did go on the field with the team today) “I was out there really just watching and getting some
reps, looking along, listening to the calls and all that, but yeah, for all the team stuff.”
(On what challenges the Titans’ defense presents) “They’re really good. They’re really disciplined.
They’re all on the same page. They’ve obviously got a couple great players. Their whole defense is great
players, but there are a few guys who stand out. Simmons (DT Jeffery Simmons) up front, played against
him last year, he’s a really good player, really, really good. David Long, linebacker. Byard, safety (Kevin
Byard). There’s a bunch of guys really all around, but those three guys really jump out on tape making
plays because they’re directing traffic. You can tell those guys lead that defense. They play hard, they’re
physical, they’re always in the right spot, really disciplined group, and they’ve been really good on third
down this year. They’ve kept people at third and long. That’s a big emphasis for us, is just not getting
behind the chains. I think that’s kind of what happened in the Detroit game as well. Put yourselves in
second and third and long, it makes it hard no matter who you’re playing, but especially Tennessee
who’s done a really good job of getting people in second and third and long situations, it’s harder to
convert when you’re in that situation.”
(On if he thinks his teammates will respond to the so-called embarrassment) “I think we have to.
Obviously it’s a huge game for us, division game. It’s a huge game because it’s the next one, too. You
look at where we’re at in our season, every game is vital, so we’re going to respond the right way. I’ve
got full faith in our group and the way we’re going to bounce back, even just in practice this week. Had a
great day today. I expect us to come out swinging. Anytime we play these guys that’s the mindset
anyways because it’s a division game, especially. I think we’re both, both teams are probably feeling the
same way after last week and just kind of what’s at stake. Everybody knows that. It’s no secret.”
(On if the urgency for a game like this week kicks up a notch after a game like last week) “Definitely.
Especially after our game against Baltimore then to come out last week and play as bad as we did, I
think, one, you’ve got to flush it and move on, and you’ve got to get ready to play the next week
because it’s not slowing down, but you really have to think about your process and your week, how you
prepared yourself going into that game, what was missing, what went wrong, all those things. We’ve
looked at that, and at this point now, we’re all focused on the Titans. Those are things you have to look
at. You have to attack this week, and you have to bring energy, got to be ready to go. We looked great
today.”
(On how he will protect his toe going forward and in the game) “That’s something we’re going to have to
talk about as the game gets closer and come up with a plan. I honestly don’t have all the answers for

that right now. My main focus is just getting healthy as soon as I can, making sure I’m ready to go. I wish
I could give you a better answer, but I really can’t right now.”
(On his level of pain tolerance) “Yeah, there’s a degree of that. You’ve got to be smart though, it’s pain
tolerance. It’s also, how do we let it heal as much as possible before you need to press it and go and be
on it and move around and really stretch it and all that stuff. It’s a little bit of both. You’ve got to be
smart. It’s partly pain tolerance, for sure, but most injuries are.”
(On if he leans on QB C.J. Beathard more this week since he is getting the reps in practice) “Yes and no.
Me and C.J. have a great relationship. He prepares every week like he’s a starter. He knows the plan
inside and out. We talk about stuff, he brings stuff to me throughout the week, ‘Hey, this call or
whatever the play is, this could be an issue, get a check for that,’ and we talk to Coach, with Press
(Offensive Coordinator Press Taylor), with Doug (Head Coach Doug Pederson), Coach McCoy
(Quarterbacks Coach Mike McCoy) to get it right. He’s done that the whole season. He’s always been
really prepared. I lean on him in that case. If there’s a question, he’s ready to go. That makes us all feel
good. He’s always done a great job of being prepared. I don’t know if that answers your question.”

(On an update of QB Trevor Lawrence’s foot injury) “Yeah, day-to-day. Getting treatment every day, just
progressing in the right direction.”
(On if QB Trevor Lawrence is practicing today) “No. No, we’ll just keep him out today, even though
tempo-wise, it’s more walkthrough tempo. He’ll get all the mental reps today, but nothing from the
standpoint of moving around.”
(On concern if QB Trevor Lawrence will play on Sunday) “Obviously, when it’s your quarterback, or any
player, there’s a level of concern. We still have several days before the game, but he’s tough and he’ll do
everything he can I know in his power to try to be out there. We’ll just take it day by day.”
(On confidence level in backup QB C.J. Beathard) “Great, my confidence level is high in him and what
he’s shown. He’s a veteran guy, he’s been in these situations before in his career, so it’s not unfamiliar
territory to him. He’s well versed in the offense, and I have a lot of confidence in him.”
(On having an experienced backup quarterback) “Yes, it is. We had that in Philly and everywhere I’ve
been. I was one of those backup guys, so I know the role oh too well.”
(On QB Trevor Lawrence wearing a black cast on foot) “It’s not a cast. It’s more of just a protective shoe,
is really what it is. It’s just to keep his foot immobilized right now, just for healing.”
(On what needs to be seen by QB Trevor Lawrence to ensure he’s healthy) “Obviously mobility, just to
see him move around. We’re this far down the road that he’ll get all the mental reps, he will study the
tape, he’ll be prepared that way. Just the physical side of it, just moving around.”
(On if preparation against Titans is different due to the change in general manager) “Well, we don’t play
the GM and I’ll tell you this, this is a good football team now. Our guys better be prepared and ready to
go. They’re well coached, I know Vrabel (Titans Head Coach Mike Vrabel) well. They feed off of him and
his excitement and enthusiasm. It’s a disciplined group, and it’s very much like that Baltimore game. It’s
going to be a sixty-minute football game, it’s going to be a physical football game, and our guys need to
understand that.”
(On what QB Trevor Lawrence’s MRI showed) “Oh, I didn’t read it, so I don’t know. I’m not a doctor that
reads those things. It’s his toe. It’s his big toe, the joint. I guess, technically speaking, it’s a sprained toe.
Whatever that means. I wasn’t the [one] that read the MRI.”
(On if the Titans are a team that takes on the personality of their coach) “One hundred percent. They
definitely feed off of him, and much like last week in Detroit, they feed off their coach as well. This is no
different, this is the same type of group. Again, this team has been around a while. They’ve got players

that have played together for a long time, and you see it on tape when you watch them. It’s a disciplined
group; a solid group on both sides of the football and we have to have a great week.”
(On Titans personality on both sides of the football) “I would agree. I think games like this, in the
trenches as they say, controlling the line of scrimmage becomes important. The ability to tackle Derrick
(Titans RB Derrick Henry), he’s a big, physical running back. It’s going to take all eleven defensively to do
that. It definitely starts with both sides of the ball, our offensive line controlling their D-line, and of
course, our defensive line against their offensive line. The trenches are a big part of this game.”
(On what’s seen on film of defending Titans RB Derrick Henry) “Well, I think the first thing is you
understand that they want to run the football. They pride themselves on that, they do a great job of
running the football, so you see more people in and around the box. You’re seeing corners having to
tackle, and that’s what I mean by all eleven making plays and supporting the run. The one thing though,
that they’ve been able to do a little bit is in the screen game with him. Being able to come off that with
play action and screen to him, he’s been able to get some explosive carries that way. They find enough
ways to get him the football other than just handing it to him. That’s why I think, from a defensive
standpoint, just understanding what they’re trying to do, study the film, have a great week of practice
and preparation, and go play.”
(On if he expects the defense to be mentally on point this week) “I hope so. It’s going to be my job this
week to make sure everybody’s on point. That’s not who we are last week. I know that’s not who
Tennessee is in the game they had last week. Two teams that are probably a little upset coming
together. It should be a good football game.”
(On if he could sense frustration and being upset and needing to prove themselves when the team came
in on Monday) “I don’t think it’s necessarily a need to prove it, it’s the upset. I think disappointment, I
think the embarrassment. That’s what you put on film? Question? That’s for everyone, players, coaches,
that’s everybody. That’s the sense that I felt Monday. Once you get through it and you focus on the next
week’s opponent, you put it behind you, you learn from it, get ready for another opportunity.”
(On if he looks back at the defensive success in stopping the Ravens in preparation to stop RB Derrick
Henry this week) “Yeah. That was a big part of that game plan that week, and it’s going to have to be
this. We’re hopeful, Andre Cisco (safety) is going to be a day to day candidate again this week. I’m
optimistic that he’ll go. It did move some things around last week. It took Andrew (S Andrew Wingard)
and it took DT, Daniel Thomas, playing defense a little bit more, taken away from special teams, so it’s
sort of that domino effect on your football team, and it affects a lot of areas. We’re hopeful that Cisco
can go and solidify that secondary. Andrew will fill in when necessary or in three-safety packages, but
it’s the same type of mindset we had for Baltimore.”
(On how he assesses the third corner spot) “I think it’s improving. We did give up the one shot the other
day in a three-deep coverage, just made a technique error. These guys are getting a little more
comfortable and confident out there. I would prefer it to be one guy, obviously, and I think Mike
(Defensive Coordinator Mike Caldwell) would be the same there. We’re working through that. These
guys are getting valuable time and valuable reps, and I think they’re improving.”
(On how important it is to get some AFC South wins when the team has historically had a very bad
record in the division) “It’s important. You’ve got to be able to win your division. You’ve got to be able to
take care of business there. This is a good division. Obviously, Tennessee’s on top right now, and

everybody’s chasing them. A lot of times, too, even in the offseason, you focus on your division
opponents a little bit and spend time studying them. When you get into the regular season, I do believe
the mindset changes a little bit. There is a sense of urgency when you play your division. I know it was
that way when I was in the NFC East. Sometimes you played the Giants, Washington, and Dallas, it was
that way, and it’s no different here with Houston and Indy and now Tennessee. That sense of urgency.
You want to win every game, but more importantly, you want to be able to win your division.”
(On what team is the standard-bearer in the division) “I think Tennessee the last couple seasons has
been the team. They’re the ones that are kind of carrying the torch. That’s the team that we’re all kind
of chasing. Indy has been in kind of that second spot there. We’re trying to get there. We’re trying to
build it, and hopefully one day be the ones that everybody else is kind of chasing.”
(On if looking at the big picture, the team isn’t as far back as the standings may show) “I’d like to say yes.
I don’t think we’re, we’re not light years away. We’re close. This season’s different a couple games, but
it’s not. All things that we can control and improve. Do I believe that we still have an opportunity? I do. I
also believe that the players believe that. We say this all the time: Control what you can control. It’s
about us. Prepare to win, and just keep it simple. You can’t worry about the outside world. You can’t
worry about what people are saying about you. You’ve just got to put your head down and go to work
and try to improve each week.”
(On if at this point in the season, games are almost do or die) “You’re running out of opportunities.
We’ve got five games, three division opponents, two games against the same team. You’re looking up
and going, you’re out of second chances.”
(On if QB Trevor Lawrence doesn’t practice this week can he still play on Sunday) “I believe so. I think at
some point this week he’ll probably see the practice field, but again, we’ve got time, and I want to make
sure he feels comfortable and he’s physically ready to go.”
(On if he had any extra conversations with the defensive staff after last week’s game) “Other than our
normal conversations on Monday, we talk a lot about different personnel groupings, packages. We talk
the play. We talk a lot, and it’s nothing out of the ordinary to have those conversations, and just to kind
of see, one, how they felt versus how they felt, bring that all together and come up with another plan
this week to try to win the game.”
(On if he thinks last week was a one-off bad game or a culmination of simmering issues) “I think it’s a
little bit of both, but I do think it’s one of those games that’s kind of a one-off that you just put in a trash
can and light it on fire and forget about it and move on. You don’t want too many of those every season,
but sometimes there’s that one that kind of gets you. Hopefully that was our one. I’m confident too. Our
guys, they’ll respond. They’re embarrassed, honestly. They know, they understand. I don’t have to sit
there and point it out. These guys are professional, and they want to get back on track.”
(On how they will prepare the defense this game, making any changes from last game) “No, I’m a big
believer in consistency. Preparation just comes down to taking it from the classroom to the practice
field, executing, like today, the first and second down base game plan today, make the connections in
the afternoon, come back tomorrow. You’ve got a couple days. You don’t have to change your process,
but you do have to maybe focus in a little bit more, understand, again like we mentioned, the sense of
urgency of what this week means to the team, to the organization, and again, just put your head down
and go to work.”
