Jaguars DE/OLB Josh Allen Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

JAGUARS DE/OLB JOSH ALLEN NAMED AFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville Jaguars DE/OLB Josh Allen has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Allen is the 17th player in franchise history to win AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors and the first to do so since DL Calais Campbell won the award in 2019.

In the Week 9 victory against the Bills, Allen sacked Bills QB Josh Allen, marking the first time a player sacked a QB with the same first and last name in NFL history. Allen finished the game with a career-high eight tackles, including two tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. Allen also recorded the first INT of his career, becoming the second defensive linemen in franchise history to post at least 1.0 sack, one INT and one fumble recovery (DE Tony Brackens). Allen is the only player in the NFL over the last three seasons (2019-21) to accomplish the feat.

Through the last four weeks, Allen’s 28 total tackles are second-most among all defensive linemen in the NFL during that span. Allen has posted 39 total tackles, including eight tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, and four passes defensed this season.
