Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp: Castano dazzles as Shrimp combine to toss two-hit shutout

Díaz crushes 20th homer to supply offense in 1-0 win

NORFOLK, Va. – Daniel Castano was magnificent for Jacksonville, Saturday, facing the minimum in seven innings, and giving up just one hit, as the Jumbo Shrimp claimed the series with a 1-0 win over the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park.

Jacksonville (57-44) picked up their eighth shutout win of the season, and allowed the Tides (40-59) just two hits, as they never advanced a runner past first base.

Castano (win, 4-2) gave up a single to Richie Martin to begin the bottom of the first inning, but he was promptly caught stealing by Nick Fortes. Castano then retired the next 20 batters he faced, striking out five, and recording 11 ground ball outs. He has now won each of his last three starts.

Lewin Díaz provided the only offense for Jacksonville, launching his 20th home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning. He has now hit six homers in the month of August, and has gone yard in back-to-back games.

Preston Guilmet worked a three up three down eighth inning, and Rob Zastryzny (save,2) recorded the final three outs, working around a pinch-hit single from Adley Rutschman

The series finale is slated for Sunday at 4:05 p.m. when Jacksonville sends lefty Braxton Garrett (2-2, 4.60) to the mound to face off with Tides right-hander Kyle Bradish (3-4, 5.06). Coverage begins at 3:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and online at espn690.com, and the MiLB First Pitch app.
