It’s a Clean Sweep; Harvey and Tsineke Earn Weekly AAC POW Honors

The duo take home Player and Freshman of the Week honors after twin 25-point performances.

TAMPA (Feb. 10, 2020) – University of South Florida women’s basketball standouts Sydni Harvey and Elena Tsineke were named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Feb. 9, when the league announced its awards on Monday. It marks the second player of the week honor of the season for Tsineke and the first for Harvey.

Harvey, a sophomore guard from Nashville, Tenn. recorded one of the best games of her collegiate career in USF’s lone game of the week, a dominating 99-51 win over Temple on Feb. 9. She poured in a career-high tying 25 points in what was a near perfect offensive performance, shooting 7-for-10 (70 percent) from the field, including 7-for-8 (87.5 percent) from behind the three-point arc, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Her seven made treys made marked a career high. In addition, Harvey had two assists, two steals, one rebound and zero turnovers in just 28 minutes of play. Harvey’s 25-point effort was her seventh double-figure scoring game in her last nine outings, and the 25th of her collegiate career, spanning just 45 career games.

On the year, Harvey is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game.

Not to be outdone, Tsineke, a freshman guard from Thessaloniki, Greece, recorded the best game of her collegiate career against the Owls, netting a career-high 25 points, with 21 coming in the first half. She surpassed her career-high of 20 – set two times previously – in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Tsineke was 8-for-18 (44.4 percent) from the field, 3-for-7 (42.9 percent) from behind the three-point arc, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. She also had four assists and three rebounds in a career-high 38 minutes of action. It was her 13th double-figure scoring game – in just 18 games – and her fourth straight.

This season, Tsineke leads the Bulls in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game.

USF now heads to the “Big Easy” to face Tulane on Thursday (ESPN3) with tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. ET. The Bulls return to the Yuengling Center on Sunday, when they welcome No. 4 UConn (ESPN3/SNY) for the Huskies’ final time as a member of The American.
