Club’s newest team signed by CSO and Sporting Director Chris Henderson, met with head coach Phil Neville and Club co-owner David Beckham ahead of Oct. 27 debut
MIAMI (October 26, 2021) – Inter Miami CF, in collaboration with Special Olympics, MLS WORKS, and ESPN, announced today the signing of 11 Special Olympics Athletes and their Unified Sports partners who will launch the inaugural Inter Miami CF Special Olympics Unified Team (IMCFSOUT). The team is made up of athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities and unified partners.
The 2021 Inter Miami CF Special Olympics Unified Team Roster
The 2021 Inter Miami CF Special Olympics Unified Team players signed their contracts in September alongside Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson before meeting in the First Team locker room. Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville was there to meet the team and give them a team talk ahead of their first training session. The Club’s newest signings then met Club co-owner David Beckham at the Sept. 17 match, who wished them luck ahead of their exciting inaugural season.
The team conducted multiple training sessions at the Inter Miami CF Training Center to prepare ahead of their inaugural match on Wednesday, Oct. 27 against the Atlanta United FC Special Olympics Unified team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Coaching Staff
The Inter Miami CF Special Olympics Unified team will be led by coaches Daniel Cartaya, Director, OPA Works and a Founding member at Our Pride Academy, a non-profit 501(c)3 school for kids with developmental disabilities Pre-K through to adult, and current Inter Miami CF Academy coach and former MLS and Trinidad and Tobago National Team player Julius James.
Wednesday, Oct. 27: A Long-Awaited Debut
Inter Miami CF’s Special Olympics Unified Team will fly to Atlanta on Tuesday, Oct. 26 for the team’s inaugural match. Prior to the Inter Miami CF versus Atlanta United FC Major League Soccer (MLS) match on Wednesday, Oct. 27, IMCFSOUT will face the Atlanta United Special Olympics Unified Team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The teams will spend the day together doing activities around the city before battling it out on the field.
Tryouts for the team were held in 2020 and the inaugural IMCFSOUT team was selected, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the team’s debut season had to be postponed.

MIAMI (26 de octubre de 2021) – Inter Miami CF , en colaboración con Olimpiadas Especiales, MLS Works, y ESPN, anunció hoy la contratación de 11 atletas de Olimpiadas Especiales y sus socios de deportes unificados para lanzar la plantilla inaugural del Equipo Unificado para Olimpiadas Especiales de Inter Miami CF (IMCFSOUT). El equipo está conformado por atletas con discapacidades intelectuales y de desarrollo y sus socios unificados.

Los jugadores que estarán con el Equipo Unificado para Olimpiadas Especiales de Inter Miami CF en 2021 firmaron sus contratos en septiembre junto a Chris Henderson, Chief Soccer Officer y Sporting Director, antes de reunirse en el vestuario del Primer Equipo. El director técnico Phil Neville estaba presente para saludar al equipo y darles una charla previo a su primera sesión de entrenamiento. Los fichajes más recientes del Club posteriormente conocieron al copropietario David Beckham en el partido del 17 de septiembre, quien les deseó suerte de cara a su emocionante temporada inaugural.

El Equipo Unificado para Olimpiadas Especiales de Inter Miami CF será dirigido por los entrenadores Daniel Cartaya, quien es director de OPA Works y miembro fundador de Our Pride Academy, una organización 501(c)3 sin fines de lucro para niños con discapacidades del desarrollo desde preescolar hasta adultos, y Julius James, quien actualmente es uno de los entrenadores de la Academia de Inter Miami CF y un exjugador profesional de la MLS y la Selección Nacional de Trinidad y Tobago.

Previo al encuentro de la Major League Soccer (MLS) entre Inter Miami CF y Atlanta United FC, IMCFSOUT va a enfrentar al Equipo Unificado para Olimpiadas Especiales de Atlanta United en el Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Los equipos pasarán el día juntos participando en distintas actividades alrededor de la ciudad previo a competir sobre el campo.
Las pruebas para el equipo se realizaron en 2020 y se eligió a la plantilla inaugural de IMCFSOUT, pero la temporada inaugural del equipo fue pospuesta debido a la pandemia del COVID-19.
