Hubbard named C-USA Freshman of the Week

DALLAS – After leading the Owls to their second Conference USA win and ninth overall victory of the season last week against North Texas, Florida Atlantic women’s basketball freshman guard Aniya Hubbard was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

The honor marks the second career nod for Hubbard after being named C-USA Freshman of the Week on Dec. 19, as well as the third weekly honor for the Owls this season.

The Hoover, Alabama native had another career week, leading FAU to its second C-USA victory of the season in a 66-61 win over North Texas. Hubbard scored a career-best 23 points, shooting 56 percent (10-of-18) from the field and 50 percent (1-of-2) from 3-point range. She also added a career-high five steals and tied a career-best five assists, in addition to collecting a pair of rebounds in the win. Through two C-USA contests, Hubbard ranks second in C-USA in scoring, averaging 19.5 points per game, and field goal percentage, shooting 58.6 percent.

Next, the Owls will head out on their first C-USA road trip of the season on Thursday, January 5 as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the UAB Blazers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET inside Bartow Arena.
