Hubbard earns C-USA-leading fourth Freshman of the Week honor

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Following another career week for Aniya Hubbard against UAB and Charlotte, the freshman guard has now become the most awarded Conference USA freshman, earning C-USA Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, announced by the league office on Monday.

Aniya’s C-USA leading fourth weekly honor also marks the fifth this season for the Owls, with freshman center Dyllan Hanna also being recognized on Dec. 12.

Aniya Hubbard had a stellar week, leading the Owls to a 1-1 split that saw the FAU earn an 80-75 win over UAB, but dropping a hard-fought 73-59 battle against Charlotte. This week, Hubbard averaged 23.5 points per game, shooting 55 percent (16-of-29) from the field, 60 percent (3-of-5) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (12-of-16) at the free throw line. She also pulled down a team-leading 5.5 rebounds per contest, tallied a team-best 10 steals, and dished out four assists over the Owls’ two contests.

Hubbard opened the week with a career-best 28 points, shooting 59 percent (10-of-17) from the field and 78 percent (7-of-9) from the free throw line, while also adding six rebounds, five steals, and a pair of assists. Hubbard then closed out the week with a team-high 19 points, shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) from the field, 67 percent (2-of-3) from 3-point range, and 71 percent (5-of-7) from the line, adding five boards and five steals.
