CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s golf team continues to garner recognition for its outstanding 2018-19 campaign, earning four selections to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-South Region team. Marcelo Huarte has been tabbed South Region Coach of the Year while Helen Kreuzer, Krissy Ortiz and Matilda Wahren make up the Fighting Knights’ trio of All-Region honorees.

Huarte, the Blue and White’s first-year coach, adds an All-Region Coach of the Year selection to his Sunshine State Conference (SSC) accolade. Lynn has shown its strength under his leadership in his first season, winning three tournaments and finishing in the top-five in all 11 events, capturing both the 2019 SSC Women’s Golf Championship and the 2019 NCAA South Region Championship. Under his guidance, the Fighting Knights earned two All-SSC selections for the first time since 2015 and have now earned three All-Region selections for the first time in school history. Additionally, this is the first time the program has earned at least one All-Region selection in back-to-back seasons since 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Kreuzer, Lynn’s first-team All-SSC selection, adds to her trophy case after taking home top honors at the NCAA South Regional. Ranked No. 6 individually, she is on the verge of breaking the single-season program record for stroke average (73.07) while shedding nearly three and a half strokes off her average from last year. The Bensheim, Germany native has nine top-10 finishes, six top-fives and three tournament wins, becoming the first golfer since Ortiz in 2016, and eighth overall, with multiple medalist honors in a single year.

Ortiz adds an All-Region nod to her stellar senior campaign after earning Second Team All-SSC honors. This season, she has posted the lowest stroke average of her career (74.67) and recorded a personal-best six top-10 finishes, giving her 15 in her career, which sits eighth in program history.

Wahren, who notched a runner-up finish at the 2019 SSC Women’s Golf Championships, completes the triumvirate of Blue and White All-Region selections. The Hasselby, Sweden native boasts four top-10 finishes on the year and holds a scoring average of 75.17, third-best on the team. She has been playing her best golf when Lynn has needed it most in the postseason, following up her second-place finish at the SSC Championships with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA South Regional.

The Blue and White take on the first day of the Division II NCAA National Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Tuesday, May 14.
