Hogan and Bello Continue to Bash

Hogan hit .421 last week, as Bello had five hits

TAMPA, July 8, 2019 – Hogan and Bello remain hot as the first week of July concludes for the USF baseball representatives on summer ball rosters. 

Summer Ball Bulls
Alex Bello – Danbury Westerners – New England Collegiate Baseball League

Bello has hit in five of the last six games. He played in four games last week, going 1-for-4 on July 1. He had another multi-hit game on July 3, going 3-for-4 with a run. He finished the week with a hit and two runs on July 6. Bello is batting .279 with 12 runs scored and 10 RBI.


Jake Sullivan – Savannah Bananas – Coastal Plain League

Sullivan played in three games last week to start July. He went 2-for-3 with a run on July 3, then had a hit on July 4 and a RBI. He has 16 RBI this summer.


Nick Gonzalez – Peninsula Pilots – Coastal Plain League

Gonzalez played in five games last week for the Pilots. He had a slow start but finished strong with a 3-for-4 effort on July 6. Gonzalez had a season-best three runs scored with two doubles. The infielder has nine RBI, 17 runs and seven extra-base hits.   


Riley Hogan – Peninsula Pilots – Coastal Plain League

Hogan also played in five games for the Pilots last week. He continues to hit a high rates, now recording base knocks in seven of the last eight games. Hogan hit .421 last week (8-for-19) with four doubles, five runs and eight RBI. He’s hitting .390 over the last 19 games with eight doubles and 22 RBI. His average for the season is now up to .313. 

About USF Baseball

The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and followed that success with a 42-19 record and second NCAA regional trip in three years in 2017. The Bulls continued the success under first-year head coach Billy Mohl in 2018, reaching 36 wins and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since 2012, while being ranked in multiple polls for the final two months. USF earned its third NCAA Regional berth in the last four seasons and had six all-conference selections in 2018. The team had four players drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program’s fourth first rounder, Shane McClanahan. Junior third baseman David Villar was taken in the 11th round after tallying 24 doubles and hitting better than .370, being named first team all-conference and an All-American. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 13 NCAA appearances.
