#HLWBB Weekly Release – Nov. 27

INDIANAPOLIS – This week, Cleveland State extended its win streak to four games while Northern Kentucky picked up two wins and Wright State defeated Xavier to highlights the week’s #HLWBB competition.

#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES

• In this week’s College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Poll, three #HLWBB teams remained in the top 25. Green Bay stayed at No. 10, Wright State moved up to No. 16 and IUPUI was No. 25.

• Wright State ranks second nationally with 23.0 offensive rebounds per game and sixth in total rebounds per game (51.0).

• Cleveland State, in the midst of the four-game winning streak, is fifth in the country, committing just 12.2 personal fouls per contest.

• Green Bay is committing just 11.8 turnovers per game, ranking 14th among Division I teams.

• Youngstown State’s Chelsea Olson is ninth nationally with 8.5 defensive rebounds per game. Olson is one of just seven Division I players who have posted a triple-double in 2019-20.

• WSU’s Tyler Frierson is shooting 71.4 percent from the floor so far this season, the sixth-best field goal percentage in the nation.

• CSU’s Mariah White is second nationally with 4.4 steals per contest.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK | MARIAH WHITE | CLEVELAND STATE | JUNIOR | GUARD | TOLEDO, OHIO

White averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.5 steals in two games last week. She posted a team-high 15 points along with seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals in the win at Hofstra and followed that up with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals playing all 40 minutes in the win at St. Bonaventure. For the season, she averaging 16.2 points, 4.4 assists and 4.4 steals per game, and has helped Cleveland State to four straight wins as the Vikings stand at 4-1 this year. The junior leads the league with 22 total steals, while she ranks fourth nationally in the category.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK | SYLARE STARKS | DETROIT MERCY | FRESHMAN | GUARD | FORT WAYNE, IND.

Starks averaged 12.5 points per game last week, including shooting 50-percent from beyond the arc (4-of-8) and 87.5-percent (7-of-8) from the free throw line. She scored 11 points in a career-high 36 minutes on the road at Western Michigan on Wednesday, adding four rebounds and two assists. Starks then scored a career-best and team-high 14 points in Detroit Mercy’s Saturday defeat to Akron, sinking 4-of-10 shots, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. She has scored in double figures in four-straight contests overall and leads the team in scoring, minutes played, 3-pointers made and free-throw percentage.
