#HLWBB Weekly Release – Jan. 2

INDIANAPOLIS – All ten teams started #HLWBB play this week as Youngstown State posted a 2-0 record, Oakland won its lone contest, and six teams split their first two contests.

#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES

• In this week’s College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, Cleveland State is No. 21 while IUPUI, Green Bay, and Youngstown State are all receiving votes.

• Youngstown State averaged 76.0 points per game in its first two League contests, posting the lone 2-0 record so far this season and extending its overall win streak to four games.

• Oakland leads #HLWBB teams with 44.0 rebounds per game in League games so far this season.

• Defensively, Cleveland State is ranked first in League play with 4.5 blocks per game and 13.5 steals per game.

• IUPUI’s Macee Williams lead the League in two categories over the opening week of play, posting 26.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game.

• NKU sophomore Ally Niece posted a balanced stat line in the opening week of League play, averaging 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

• Milwaukee guard Sydney Levy had another solid night from long range on Saturday, Dec. 28, pouring in 20 points on six three-pointers to help carry Milwaukee to a win over defending champions and preseason favorite Wright State.

• Green Bay was very balanced offensively in its win over NKU on Saturday, as Madison Wolf and Frankie Wurtz scored 12 points each, Hailey Oskey added 11 points, and Caitlyn Hibner scored ten points. 

• In Wright State’s win at Green Bay on Monday, Angel Baker led WSU with 25 points while Michal Miller added 19 points for the Raiders.

McKenah Peters averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds to help Youngstown State achieve the only 2-0 start to Horizon League play. She tied for the league’s top-scoring effort on opening night when she posted a career-high 22 points in the win over IUPUI. Peters scored 19 of those 22 points in the second half as she went 7-of-9 from the field overall and 5-of-6 from 3-point range. She followed that up by grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over UIC, scoring nine points in the victory.

Taylor Petit averaged 13 points as Youngstown State was the only team to win twice the opening weekend of league play. She scored a career-best 19 points in the win over UIC, going 5-of-12 from the field, 3-of-7 from 3-point range and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. She scored seven points in the come-from-behind win over IUPUI, and she was involved in two of the biggest plays of the game in the fourth quarter. Petit dove on the floor for a loose ball that led to Macee Williams fouling out, and she hit a floater with 36 seconds remaining to put YSU ahead 74-72. For the week, she shot 47.1 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from 3-point range and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
