HLWBB Weekly Release – Dec. 4

INDIANAPOLIS – This week of #HLWBB action was highlighted by Green Bay’s win over No. 18 Syracuse and IUPUI’s victory over Big East opponent St. John’s, as well as extended winning streaks by Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky.

#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES

• Again this week, there are three #HLWBB teams ranked in the College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. Green Bay checked in at No. 11, followed by Wright State at No. 17 and IUPUI at No. 25. Green Bay also received votes in this week’s USA Today Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

• Green Bay earned a third-place finish in the Greater Victoria Invitational this week, including an upset of No. 18 Syracuse to end the tournament. The Phoenix notched its 11th win overall a ranked opponent in program history and fourth ranked win in the past three seasons with the victory.

• IUPUI defeated St. John’s on Saturday at the Lady Rebel Roundup hosted by UNLV, then followed that with a win over Elon on Sunday to claim the tournament title. Senior Holly Hoopingarner was named Tournament MVP after scoring 19 points in the win over the Phoenix.

• Cleveland State extended its win streak to six games this week, defeating Akron and Delaware State. In the matchup against the Zips, Mariah Miller, the League-leader in points per game (23.0), posted 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings.

• Northern Kentucky extended its own win streak to four games, picking up two victories at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic, defeating the host and Jacksonville State. Molly Glick was named Tournament MVP, posting double-figures in both contests, including a career-high 24 points against FIU.

• Oakland also posted a 2-0 record in the FIU Thanksgiving Classic. The Golden Grizzlies were led by Jalisha Terry, who averaged 16.0 points per game with 10 total assists and seven steals while going 15-for-17 (88.2%) from the charity stripe.

• Youngstown State earned a road win at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, overcoming a 15-point deficit in the second quarter to win, 72-63. Ny’Dajah Jackson scored 14 of her team-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Penguins.

Caitlyn Hibner scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in Green Bay’s victory over No. 18 Syracuse on Saturday afternoon in the Greater Victoria Invitational. The Phoenix notched its 11th win over a ranked opponent and fourth in the past three seasons. Green Bay claimed third place in the eight-team invitational and finished 2-1, with its lone loss coming to No. 10 Mississippi State. For the week, Hibner posted 15.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK | IVY TURNER | NORTHERN KENTUCKY | FRESHMAN | GUARD | DANVILLE, KY.

Ivy Turner had double-digit scoring efforts in all three of Northern Kentucky’s victories over the week, averaging 12.7 points per game. The rookie had an efficient week from the floor, shooting 55.0 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc through the three contests, and got herself to the free-throw line 16 times, converting on 87.5 percent of her attempts. The 5-foot-5 guard also added 5.3 rebounds per game, including a career-best eight against FIU, and dished out five assists while nabbing three steals over the course of the week.
