Have you ever felt like your mind is on a never-ending instant replay?

Have you ever felt like your mind is on a never-ending instant replay?

Have you wondered if everything in your day would feel different if you could get a good night sleep?

Sleep is one of the most important necessities for maintaining our overall health. An average good night sleep is approximately eight hours, for some more, for some a bit less. Since no two people are identical, the required amount of sleep for an individual will vary.

The human body is incredible because it is designed to heal itself. A lot of that happens while we sleep! Sleep is not only something we do because we are tired. While we sleep, our body is resetting and repairing itself. In other words, your body is going through a detox process cleaning up all the toxins. Did you know your liver generally repairs itself between the hours of 10 pm through 3 am while you sleep every night?

If we are unable to sleep a sufficient amount of time or we have trouble sleeping because we cannot stop thinking, our body is not getting enough time to adequately rid itself from the toxins collected over the course of the day.

My chiropractor has shared with me how the positions we sleep in are also key to the quality of our sleep and our body’s ability to completely detox. It is important to keep our body in a position of alignment to keep our nervous system clear of interference. I often compare our body to a cell phone, which we all are familiar with these days. When you use your cell phone and your service signal isn’t strong, your call quality is not satisfactory, your apps may not work properly, and your call may disconnect or not go through. You aren’t happy with the way your phone is functioning. If it is a constant problem, you look for a new provider or a new phone!

In our body, our brain is the like the cell service provider sending signals via our nervous system to every part of our body. If the signals from our brain are interrupted by possible poor sleep positions or lack of sleep, the various different parts of our body are not getting full service making it difficult for the body to regularly repair daily toxin accumulation.

If our brain cannot deliver proper service to the rest of our parts, we can’t change our service provider or buy a new body; however, we can learn to maintain healthy habits to take care of the one we have.

The best first step is trying to schedule a similar time to go to sleep each night so your body gets the opportunity to heal itself regularly. Sleeping on your stomach can cause you to be misaligned so the next thing to try is sleeping on your back or on your side with shoulders, hips, and knees stacked evenly.
