Harvey Invited to USA Basketball 3×3 National Championship

Harvey will compete on the Connecticut team of the 2019 USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 National Championship this weekend

TAMPA, May 1, 2019 – Freshman Sydni Harvey (Nashville, Tenn.) has been selected to participate in the 2019 USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 National Championship, held Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas.

Harvey will play on the Connecticut team, made up of NCAA Division I basketball players, including three others from UConn: Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Megan Walker, and Christyn Williams.

The USA 3×3 Nationals will tip off preliminary games from 3 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. PDT on Friday. The preliminary round will continue from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and then teams will be seeded based on preliminary records. The elimination round will begin Saturday at 6 p.m. The women’s championship game will be streamed live on usab.com/live and will tip at 10 p.m. PDT.

The half-court competition consists of 18 teams. The teams represent some of the top NCAA Division I programs across the country, athletes invited to a two-day USA Basketball minicamp, and teams that qualified out of 3×3 tournaments over the past year. The event is free and open to the public at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center.

Teams are competing for a national championship, but the event also serves as thr 2019 USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 National Team trials, as eligible athletes will be considered for selection to the 2019 USA Women’s 3×3 basketball team competing in the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games.  

The USA Women’s 3×3 National Championships is in its eighth year, and 3×3 basketball will be included in the 2020 Summer Olympics. The basketball discipline features a 10-minute clock, 12-second shot clock, and the first team to 21 points or the team in the lead at the end of regulation is the winner.

Harvey was a standout freshman for USF in the American Athletic Conference this season, garnering all-freshman team honors from the league. She earned AAC Freshman of the Week honors twice during the season, and twice earned AAC Honor Roll in her inaugural campaign. She also earned a spot on the Paradise Jam Tournament All-Star Team, after her 50-point week in the three-game tournament.

In her freshman campaign, Harvey scored 366 points and added in 81 assists in 31 games. She started 24 games in green and gold and boasted an 83.5 percent efficiency from the free-throw line on an 86-of-103 clip.
