Harris’ Strong Outing Leads UAB Baseball Past WKU, 7-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB baseball defeated WKU 7-1 on Saturday night in the second of a three-game weekend series at Nick Denes Field to knot the series at one game each and set up a Sunday afternoon rubber match.
 
Leo Harris pitched one of the best games of his career, going eight innings, allowing only one run and six hits while striking out six without surrendering a walk. At the plate, Christian Hall and Brandon Willoughby each had a pair of hits. Josh Sears belted a three-run homer while John Marc MullinsDarryl Buggs and Logan Braunschweig each had one RBI.
 
The Blazers got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when Buggs scored on a wild pitch and Hall crossed the plate on a on a Braunschweig single.
 
WKU scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third when a Ty Crittenberger sac fly scored Jackson Gray.
 

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Blazers broke the game wide open with five runs in the top of the fifth. The scoring began when Mullins’ sacrifice fly scored Willoughby to extend the UAB lead to 3-1. On the next at-bat, a Buggs’ double scored Gavin Lewis, Jr., putting the Blazers ahead 4-1. Hall followed with a walk before Sears launched his 11th home run of the season to make the score 7-1

 
UAB (27-18, 11-12 C-USA) and WKU (15-30, 6-17 C-USA) continue the weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m.
