Halliwill Earns C-USA Spirit of Service Award

BIRMINGHAM — UAB women’s soccer student-athlete, Morgan Halliwill, has been named as one of 14 recipients of the 2021 Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award, the league office announced on Monday.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designated to recognize community efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, academic good standing and participation in their elected sport.

The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with Monday’s honoree representing Conference USA’s fall sports: cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.

Halliwill has completed 78 hours of community service during her time at UAB. She has invested her time back into the Birmingham community through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way of Central Alabama, Inc., Smile-A-Mile, Bundles of Hope, and Glen Iris Elementary School.

Academically, the biomedical engineering major has earned the Conference USA Academic Medal, been on the C-USA Honor Roll as well as the UAB Dean’s and President’s Lists. She has a 3.94 GPA.

On the field, she helped lead UAB to its first berth in the C-USA Championship semifinals in 11 years. She scored three goals and added one assist for seven points while starting 15 of the Blazers’ 18 matches. Her game-winning goal against (RV) North Texas started a five match unbeaten streak. For her career, she has six goals, two assists for 14 points and has made 26 starts.

“I am so honored to receive this award,” said Halliwill. “Serving Birmingham makes me so happy, so I try to volunteer as much as possible with different organizations. I love to help others, and the best part is seeing how everyone is so thankful.”
