Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Two to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Michael Kessie and James Sewell to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.  

Michael Kessie

Kessie, of Bradenton, is the New College of Florida Police Department’s Chief of Police. Previously, he served as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief of Operations for the Schererville, Indiana Police Department and Deputy Sheriff for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Kessie is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Professionals.  

James Sewell

Sewell, of St. Petersburg, is a former Assistant Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Previously, he was Director of Planning Services for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and Chief of Police and Acting City Manager for the City of Gulfport. Sewell is a member of the Florida Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame and is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He earned a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and PhD in criminology from Florida State University.

 Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Charles Broadway to the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems Council
Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Charles Broadway to the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems Council.  
Charles Broadway
Broadway, of Groveland, is the Clermont Police Department’s Chief of Police. Previously, he was a Special Agent Supervisor with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Broadway is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, West Central Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board of Directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from St. John’s University.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Aakash Patel to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Aakash Patel to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees.

Patel, of Tampa, is Founder and President of Elevate Inc. Previously, he was Director of Business Development for Chamber.com. Patel is Chair of the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County, a member of the Tampa Bay Chamber Board of Directors and served on the Super Bowl LV Host Committee. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Florida State University.  This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Ismare Monreal and Michael Bileca to the Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees 

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Ismare Monreal and Michael Bileca to the Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees.  

Ismare Monreal

Monreal, of Miami, is the Acting Vice President and Dean of Students at Johnson and Wales University. She has volunteered her time with the United Way of Miami-Dade, Archdiocese of Miami Marriage and Family Ministry and A Safe Haven for Newborns. Monreal earned her associate’s degree from Miami Dade College, bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and her master of business administration from the University of Phoenix.  

Michael Bileca

Bileca, of Miami, is the Executive Director of the Dennis Bileca Institute for Character and Excellence. He is the current Chair of the Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees and previously served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives. Bileca earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Tulane University and his master of business administration from Northwestern University. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. ###
