Pompano Beach Tree Giveaway

From David Volz

The City of Pompano Beach held its tree giveaway program at the city’ plant nursery. Each Pompano Beach resident could receive two trees.

“We want to encourage Pompano Beach residents to plant trees on their properties,” said Yvonne Jones-Ranaudo of the City of Pompano Beach. “We want to keep the city beautiful and it important that we have more trees in the city.”

The City had two tree giveaways. During the most recent Saturday tree giveaway event, 255 people came to receive trees. People could come to the nursery and select the trees they wanted. Some of tree types included Bald Cypress, Red Maple, Foxtail Palm, Silver Buttonwood, Gumbo-Limbo, Live Oak and others.

The Pompano Beach Tree Giveaway is a popular event and many residents enjoy picking out a tree that they can plant in their yards.

Condo owners should expect tougher scrutiny

The number of confirmed dead at the Surfside tower collapse is now at 97. It is likely that the land where the collapsed building stood will be sold. But there are a growing number family members of the victims who want the land to be turned into a memorial to those who died in the collapse.

Also people who live in condominiums in South Florida may face some very large bills. About two-thirds of the condominiums in the area are over 30 years old and many of the owners of units may have to pay more for higher insurance costs, engineering reports and repairs that insurers will now require.

Some private insurers will drop coverage of older condominium buildings. This means that many condo associations will have seek coverage from Citizens Property Insurance Corp. Barry Gilway, CEO and president of Citizens believes companies will be more demanding in their underwriting requirements. Gilway said Citizens should toughen its own eligibility criteria. Condo associations should be required to submit structural engineering reports. People who  are members of condo boards or live in condominium units should expect tougher scrutiny from insurers.
