Gators Place 62 on SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 62 student-athletes on the 2021 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.

The 2021 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2020 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.

Florida’s SEC champion men’s swimming & diving program placed 20 on the list. SEC women’s swimming & diving runner-up Florida had 22 earning the honor. All 10 eligible for the honor from the 2021 SEC champion Gator gymnastics team earned SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades. Six from men’s basketball and four from the women’s team earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll.

Junior Leah Clapper was recognized at the league championship meet last month as the SEC Gymnast Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She owns a 3.967 grade point average as she is dual enrolled in graduate classes. Clapper receives her bachelor’s degree in Advertising this summer and then plans to continue her studies to earn her Professional Master’s in the College of Journalism and Communications.

Swimmer Tylor Mathieu turned in a 4.0 grade point average in 2020.

To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
