Gators in Third at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite

Florida shot 3-under in round one with Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin placing T5.

CHICAGO – The Florida men’s golf team got off to a good start as it sits in third after 18 holes on Friday at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite.

The Gators shot a team score of 277 (-3) to own a six-stroke lead over fourth-place Oklahoma State (+3). Florida was one of three teams to shoot under as Stanford leads at -10 and host Illinois is in second at -9.

Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin led the lineup on day one at Olympia Fields with 2-under rounds. Castillo started the morning with a birdie on one (par 5, 626 yards) and was three-under thru six holes. The duo tied for the third lowest round to reside in T5.

Finishing even on the day, Fred Biondi is T13. He used a late birdie on 15 (par 5, 576 yards) to finish 1-under on the back nine as he has yet to record a round over par this season. A stroke behind him is Quentin Debove who shot a 71 (+1) for T22. John DuBois rounds out the lineup in T43.

Florida tees off round two tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. ET paired with the Cardinal and Illini.
