Gators Excel Academically in Spring Semester

Florida student-athletes record a 3.17 GPA for the spring and seven teams notch above a 3.4.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida student-athletes excelled in the classroom amid another challenging semester as 13 programs and a total of 362 Gators posted a 3.0 GPA or better for the 2021 spring semester.

The Gators’ SEC champion softball squad led the way with a 3.66 GPA while men’s tennis, who was also crowned SEC champs this season, paced all men’s programs with a 3.48 mark.

Seven teams notched a GPA north of 3.4 and altogether Florida achieved a 3.17 for the spring semester.

When looking at the entire 2020-21 academic year, 16 of the Gators’ programs finished with at least a 3.0 GPA, including the UF football team which set a program record with a 3.02 cumulative GPA.

UF’s gymnastics team recorded the highest overall GPA in 2020-21, finishing with a 3.51 and men’s tennis achieved the top annual GPA of all male programs at 3.44.

Earlier this month, 73 student-athletes were celebrated during spring commencement; 32 of those student-athletes were part of a national and/or conference championship team during their careers as Gators.

A total of 156 Gators have garnered SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition, with spring and first year honor roll still to be announced in June.
