Gaston Earns First C-USA Player of the Week Honor

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Amber Gaston of the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team has been tabbed Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This award marks the first of Gaston’s career, as well as the first for Jennifer Sullivan as a head coach.

“I’m so incredibly proud of Amber! She has been working so hard and this is a testament to the hours she has put in from the offseason up until now,” said head Sullivan. “I can’t wait for her to make noise in the league this season while being a leader on and off the court.”

Gaston put on a show against Florida Memorial, logging 19 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. The forward shot 9-for-11 from the field to improve her field goal percentage to .617, which leads the league and is No. 9 in the NCAA. Gaston played 32 minutes against the Lions, while also registering two assists and two blocks.

The Vicksburg, Mississippi native has notched double digits in scoring all nine games, while logging three double-doubles and three 10+ rebound games. Also in the C-USA standings, Gaston is seventh in blocks (1.2 blocks per game), 10th in scoring (14.7 points per game) and 11th in rebounding (7.3 rebounds per game).

FAU will host the Pre-Christmas Tournament from Dec. 19-20. The Owls play Richmond on Sunday, Dec. 19 at noon followed by Alabama A&M on Monday, Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for those games can be purchased here or by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
