Four Teams Qualify for 2024 NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals, UTSA Sends Two Individuals

IRVING, Texas – Four American Athletic Conference teams were selected for the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, while UTSA teammates Daniela Abonce and Camryn Carreon earned individual bids.

The NCAA Regionals schedule will feature six tournament sites across the country, with 12 teams and six unattached individuals participating at each site from May 6-8. The top four team finishers and best two individuals from non-advancing teams at each regional site will move on to the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship Finals on May 17-22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

SMU, the 2024 American champion, earned the conference’s automatic bid earlier this month at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla. and was seeded 5th at the NCAA Bryan Regional. North Texas, South Florida and Tulsa joined SMU in the field as at-large selections. South Florida will be the 6th seed and North Texas will be the 9th seed at the Bermuda Run Regional, while Tulsa will be the 8th seed at the Auburn Regional. UTSA teammates Daniela Abonce and Camryn Carreon will play as individuals at the Bryan Regional.

SMU won its second straight American Women’s Golf Championship on April 17 at Southern Hills. SMU is set for its 11th all-time NCAA Regional appearance and second straight NCAA Regional berth. The Mustangs earned the No. 5 seed in the Bryan Regional and will play at The Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.  SMU enters the NCAA Regionals as the highest ranked American squad in the Clippd rankings at 26th.

South Florida makes back-to-back regional appearances, earning the 6th seed in the Bermuda Run Regional. The Bulls will make their 16th NCAA Regionals appearance and will play at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Bermuda Run, North Carolina. South Florida finished in third place at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship and enter the NCAA Regionals ranked 34th by Clippd.

North Texas will join the Bulls in the Bermuda Run Regional as the 9th seed.  The Mean Green will make their 5th NCAA Regional appearance, including four straight appearances. North Texas led all teams with all-conference selections with four and will enter the NCAA Regionals ranked 51st by Clippd.

Tulsa will make their 20th NCAA Regionals Appearance and third in four seasons (2021, 2023). The Golden Hurricane earned the 8th seed at the Auburn Regional and will play at Auburn University Club in Auburn Alabama. Tulsa finished in second place at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship and enter the NCAA Regionals ranked 47th by Clippd.

UTSA will send a pair of players to participate as individuals at the NCAA Regionals – Daniela Abonce and Camryn Carreon. Abonce earned the automatic bid for The American after winning the 2024 American Athletic Conference individual title on April 17 at Southern Hills. Carreon will play in her second straight NCAA Regional as an individual, winning the San Antonio Regional a season ago.  Carreon will look to make it three straight appearances to the NCAA Championships, advancing as an individual in the 2022 NCAA Regional as well.
