Four Owls Drop Double Digits in Loss at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team (1-2) dropped a battle at Florida (4-1) Monday night, 88-76. Despite the loss, FAU had a balanced effort behind four Owls tallying double digits in scoring, including career nights for Iggy Allen (24 points and nine rebounds) and Janeta Rozentale (11 points and 13 rebounds).
  How It Was Decided
1Q
Iggy Allen got the show rolling for the Owls, scoring the first five points for FAU. After just three minutes of play, Allen was up to five points and four boards, as the Owls trailed 8-5 out of the first media timeout. The Owls retook the lead, 11-8, following a putback layup by Janeta Rozentale and two free throws sunk by Alexa Zaph. UF would then go on a 11-6 run to close out the frame, as the Owls trailed, 19-15.

2Q
Astou Gaye scored the first points of the quarter off a layup, but shortly after, UF got rolling on a 7-0 run in just 56 seconds. After FAU was held without a field goal for over two minutes, Tanyia Gordon drove through the lane for a deuce, and the Owls trailed 31-21 with 5:07 left in the half. UF got on another run, 11-3, late in the third quarter with the Owls down by as many as 18 points. Allie Tylka finished the quarter with five points in the last 49 seconds of the half, and FAU lagged being UF, 46-31 after two.

3Q
Sofia Galeron provided a spark for the Owls coming out of the locker room, tallying a 3-pointer followed by a second-chance layup, and FAU trailed 7:05 left in the quarter. Gordon then initiated a 6-0 run for FAU, as the Owls creeped up with eight points. With 3:36 left, Allen sunk a 3-pointer, her 18th points of the game, to cut the Gators’ lead to seven, but that is the closest the Owls could get to taking over the game. UF closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 67-51.

4Q
The Owls fought until the sound of the final buzzer, outscoring UF 25-21 in the fourth. Rozentale captured her first career double-double after recording a layup off an Allen assist with 7:53 left in the contest.
