Fort Lauderdale Commission considers working with Pompano Beach

From David Volz

The Fort Lauderdale Commission considered various actions during a recent conference meeting and CRA meeting.

The Commissioners considered a request to contribute $500,000 to the City of Pompano Beach for a project to raise the McNab Road Bridge near Cypress Club Drive by 4 feet. The bridge is just north of the City’s limit and raising it would provide the benefit of increasing height clearance for vessels. The City Commission did not reach consensus on determining that contributing to the project served a public purpose. Members of the City Commission proposed prioritizing funds for needed repairs and improvements of City bridges.

The City Commission requested the Charter Revision Board reconvene in the new year for the purpose of recommending revisions to the City Charter. The charter is the foundation of how the City’s government functions in terms of distribution of powers and checks and balances.

The CRA Board of Commissioners passed a motion to transfer City-owned property to the Community Redevelopment Agency for public purposes. The property is located east of Powerline Road and south of Sistrunk Boulevard in District 3. The motion also delegated authority to the Executive Director to take certain actions, among other items.
