Florida Panthers to Celebrate Black History Month with Black Excellence Series, Black History Night on Feb. 24

Panthers second season of ‘Celebration of Black Excellence’ program will honor South Florida community members going above and beyond

SUNRISE, Fla. – In celebration of Black History Month, the Florida Panthers today announced the launch of their second annual ‘Celebration of Black Excellence’ series recognizing South Florida community members making a difference.    

From Black executives and educators to those in the culinary field, healthcare workers, media members, and more, the Panthers ‘Celebration of Black Excellence’ program will recognize individuals nominated by their peers, colleagues and families for the positive impact they are making in South Florida and beyond.   

Honorees’ stories and achievements will be highlighted throughout Black History Month at FloridaPanthers.com and via Panthers social media platforms @FlaPanthers and @FlaPanthersCARE.   

Later in the month, ‘Black Excellence’ honorees will be recognized during the team’s annual Black History Night on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, when the Panthers take on the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. at FLA Live Arena.  

Among the first to be recognized as part of the Panthers ‘Celebration of Black Excellence’ program are:

  • Rayford Shipman, Director of Business Development & Physician Relations, Memorial Healthcare System

Additionally, on the Panthers ‘Black History Night’, Panthers players will debut special ‘Black History Night’ warmup jerseys exclusively designed by local Miami artist and Creative Director of Grand Opening Gallery Keyani Watkins. These jerseys will be available for auction through FlaPanthers.givesmart.com with proceeds benefiting the Florida Panthers Foundation.
