Florida Panthers Re-Sign Defenseman Brandon Montour to a Three-Year Contract

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Brandon Montour to a three-year contract.

“After joining the Panthers at the deadline this past season, Brandon impressed us with his character, skillset, tenacity and passion,” said Zito. “We are excited to have him return to the Panthers as an important element of our defensive core.”

Montour, 27, recorded four points (2-2-4) and a plus-eight rating over 12 games with Florida, amassing a total of 18 points (7-11-18) over 50 games between the Panthers and Buffalo Sabres in 2020-21.

The 6-foot, 194-pound native of Brantford, Ontario has played in 293 career NHL games with Florida (2020-21), Buffalo (2018-19 to 2020-21) and the Anaheim Ducks (2016-17 to 2018-19), producing 109 points (31-78-109). Over 27 career NHL postseason games with Florida and Anaheim, he has registered eight assists.

Through his NHL career, Montour has scored at least five goals in a season four times and has eclipsed the 20-point mark twice, producing a career-best 32 points and nine goals in 2017-18.

A two-time American Hockey League (AHL) All-Star, Montour led all AHL defensemen and rookies in assists (45) with the San Diego Gulls in 2015-16. Over 118 career AHL games with San Diego (2015-16 to 2016-17) and the Norfolk Admirals (2014-15), Montour amassed 99 points  (26-73-99).

Prior to his professional career, the UMass-Amherst alum was named to the 2014-15 Hockey East All-Rookie Team and was named United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Year and Player of the Year in 2013-14.

On the international stage, Montour won a Silver Medal with Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championship.

Originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (55th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Montour was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2021 third-round draft pick on April 10, 2021.
