TONIGHT’S CITY FURNITURE MILITARY HERO: Eric Brogna

Tonight’s Hero Among Us is United States Army veteran, Eric Brogna. Eric’s service from 1989-1996 included deployments to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. Eric currently plays for the Panthers Warriors Hockey Program which is dedicated to injured and disabled U.S. Military Veterans who have served our country and play the sport of hockey.

    COMEBACK CATS
    The Panthers scored four unanswered goals in the third period against the Capitals Nov. 30 to overcome a three-goal deficit and win, 5-4. The comeback marked the fourth time in franchise history that Florida erased a three-goal, third-period deficit (March 11, 2021 at CBJ, Nov. 12, 2019 at BOS, Feb. 10, 2009 vs. TOR). The Cats’ four-goal third period marked the third time this season they have scored four times in a period. Sam Reinhart capped the comeback with his first power-play marker as a Panther with 15 seconds remaining in the game.
    TILTING THE ICE
    Florida recorded a season-high 51 shots Nov. 30 vs. WSH, the 12th time in club history the Cats have logged 51+ shots in a regular season game. They out-shot WSH 27-2 in the third period, marking the fourth time in club history the Panthers recorded 27+ shots in a period. Panthers skaters have recorded a season-high six shots in a game nine times this season: Bennett three times; Vatrano twice; Barkov, Ekblad, Huberdeau, and Montour once each.

    EK’S GON’ GIVE IT TO YA
    Aaron Ekblad tied his career high for assists in a game with three helpers Nov. 30 vs. WSH, marking his 20th career multi-assist game. He scored his sixth career overtime goal, his 20th career game-winning goal, and added an assist Nov. 24 vs. PHI. His six career OT-GWG’s are the third-most in FLA history. Ekblad’s 20 points (6-14-20) this season are tied for third-most among NHL defensemen, and his six goals are tied for the third-most among league blueliners. Thirteen of his points (5-8-13) have come at even strength, tied for the most among league defensemen. He has produced a point in six of his past eight games (2-8-10). Ekblad’s six goals scored this season have all been tallied at FLA Live Arena. His +18 rating is the third-highest among NHL defensemen, and he leads the team with 25:20 time on ice per game and 69 shots on goal.
    YOU’RE ON THE CASE, BOBROVSKY
    Sergei Bobrovsky earned his 10th win of the season Nov. 30 vs. WSH to improve to 8-0-0 at FLA Live Arena in 2021-22, becoming the the first goaltender in Panthers history to win each of his first eight decisions on home ice to start the season. He was the only goaltender in club history with points in each of his first 10 or more decisions in a season. With his 35-save win Nov. 20 vs. MIN, he became the second goaltender in club history to earn at least one point in 10 consecutive decisions (Roberto Luongo, 9-0-1 in 2015-16). Bobrovsky’s .930 save percentage ranks sixth among goaltenders with at least 14 games played this season. He has won nine straight decisions at FLA Live Arena dating back to May 8 vs. TBL.
    A JUMBO ACHIEVEMENT
    Joe Thornton tallied his second goal of the season Nov. 30 vs. WSH. His goal represented his 1,533rd NHL point, tying Mark Recchi for 12th-most points in NHL history. Thornton has produced a point in each of his past two games (1-1-2).

Sam Reinhart is expected to play in his first game against his former club tonight. Reinhart amassed 295 points (134-161-295) over 454 games with Buffalo from 2014-15 to 2020-21.

    MacKenzie Weegar notched an assist for the third consecutive game and logged six takeaways Nov. 30 vs. WSH. His six takeaways were tied for the most takeaways in a single game by any NHL skater in 2021-22. He has produced six assists (0-6-6) over his past seven games. His 12 assists this season (0-12-12) are tied for second-most among FLA defensemen. The 27-year-old native of Ottawa, Ontario ranks second on FLA with 66 hits this season and he leads the team with 48 blocked shots. He leads the team with 33 takeaways, the second-most of any NHL skater this season.
    BENNY AND THE CATS
    Sam Bennett scored his team-leading third power-play goal and logged six hits Nov. 30 vs. WSH. Bennett leads FLA forwards with 64 shots on goal and 35 hits this season. He has amassed 28 points (14-14-28) over 28 total regular season games as a Panther. His three game-winning goals are tied with Eetu Luostarinen for the most on the Panthers this season. Seven of his eight goals this season have been scored at FLA Live Arena, tied for most home goals on Florida.
    THE LOMBERGHINI
    Ryan Lomberg recorded his first career multi-point game (1-1-2) Nov. 30 vs. WSH. He leads FLA with 21 PIM this season, and has posted a careerhigh five points (2-3-5). He ranks third among FLA forwards with 34 hits.

    Patric Hornqvist notched an assist on Ryan Lomberg’s goal Nov. 30 vs. WSH. He has produced two points (1-1-2) over his last two games, scoring his third goal of the season Nov. 27 vs. SEA. All three of Hornqvist’s goals this season have come in the first period at FLA Live Arena.
