TONIGHT’S CITY FURNITURE MILITARY HERO: Willie Ford
Tonight’s Hero Among Us is Vietnam War Veteran Willie Ford. Willie served in the US Army from 1964-1984 which included two tours in Vietnam as well as deployments to Japan, Germany, and Ethiopia. He is the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

    KEEP ON ROLLING
    The Panthers have earned at least one point in each of their past seven games (6-0-1). Over the seven-game span, the Cats have outscored their
    opponents 38-20, averaging a league-best 5.43 goals per game. From Dec. 29-Dec. 12, Florida led all teams in goals (38), five-on-five goals (27), shots
    (266), and points (13), posting a 28.6 power-play success rate [6/21]. 17 different Panthers have scored at least one goal since Dec. 29. Jonathan
    Huberdeau led all skaters in assists and points (3-11-14) from Dec. 29-Jan. 12.
    DOMINANCE ON DEFENSE
    At least one Panthers defenseman has recorded a point in all 36 of Florida’s games this season, the sixth-longest such run in NHL history, per NHL
    PR. The Panthers lead all NHL teams in assists by defensemen this season (88), and their 107 points rank second-most. Five different Panthers
    defensemen (Ekblad, Weegar, Forsling, Montour, Gudas) have recorded at least 10 points this season, tied for the second-most among NHL teams.

    HOME SWEET HOME
    The Panthers own a league-best 19-3-0 record at home this season, leading all NHL teams in goals (98), shots per game (38.4), and five-on-five shots
    (690) at home. The Cats have won each of their past five games on home ice, tied for the fifth-longest home win streak in club history. Jonathan
    Huberdeau leads all skaters in assists and points (6-27-33) on home ice in 2021-22.
    CATS AND STARS
    The Panthers and Stars face off tonight for the second time this season following Dallas’ 6-5 shootout victory Jan. 6 at American Airlines Center.
    Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad (0-3-3) each logged three points (2-1-3) in the game, and Jonathan Huberdeau (1-1-2) scored at 19:31 of the
    third period to force overtime.
    HUBY SNACKS
    Jonathan Huberdeau notched an assist for the sixth consecutive game Jan. 11 vs. VAN to extend his point streak to six games (3-11-14), his second
    longest point streak of the season. His 14 points since Dec. 29 lead all NHLers. He was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week for the week ending
    Jan. 2, his second Star of the Week nomination this season. Huberdeau followed up a five-point (1-4-5) performance Dec. 30 vs. TBL with a three-assist
    outing Jan. 1 vs. Montreal, becoming the first Panther in club history to eight points over a two-game span twice in the same season (also 1-7-8, Nov.
    30-Dec. 2). The native of Saint-Jerome, Quebec ranks tied for second among league skaters in assists (34) and owns the fifth-most points (13-34-47).
    He has produced a point in all but seven of Florida’s games this season.
    BARKOV COUNTY
    Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov scored his 3rd shorthanded goal of the season, added an assist and blocked five shots Jan. 11 vs. VAN. His
    SHG marked his 3rd over Florida’s past six games, becoming the only player in club history and the first NHLer in since Patrice Bergeron in 2018-19 to
    score 3 SHG in that short a span. The goal was Barkov’s 10th career SHG, surpassing Pavel Bure (9) for third-most in franchise history. He scored a
    shorthanded goal, a power-play goal and added an assist for a season-high three points (2-1-3) Jan. 6 at DAL. Barkov leads Florida with 15 goals and
    four power-play goals, and he is one of two NHL skaters (Gustav Nyquist) with three SHG this season. The native of Tampere, Finland has posted at
    least one point in 18 of his 23 games this season. Barkov is Florida’s franchise leader in goals scored (196) and he is currently tied with Scott Mellanby
    (552) for fifth-most games played in Panthers history.
    EK’S GON’ GIVE IT TO YA
    Jan. 11 vs. VAN, Aaron Ekblad logged three points (1-2-3) for the fourth time this season and seventh time in his career. Only Brian Campbell (5,
    2011-12) has recorded more three-point outings in a season in club history, and only Robert Svehla (9) and Keith Yandle (8) posses more three-point
    games as a Panther in club history. Ekblad’s four three-point performances are tied with Roman Josi for most by a defenseman in 2021-22. Ekblad has
    amassed 15 points (4-11-15) over his last 14 games (since Nov. 30). His +23 rating this season leads Florida and ranks second among league
    defensemen. All 10 of his goals this season have been scored at FLA Live Arena, the third-most goals of any league blueliner. The Windsor, Ontario
    native leads Florida defensemen in goals, assists and points (10-22-32).
    HOME IS WHERE THE ‘HART IS
    Sam Reinhart recorded three points (2-1-3) Jan. 11 vs. VAN, his first multi-goal game for Florida. He has produced six points (2-4-6) over his past three
    games. Reinhart’s 29 points (11-18-29) and eight power-play points (2-9-11) this season rank third-most on Florida.
    THE DUKE OF SOUTH FLORIDA
    Anthony Duclair scored his fourth career overtime goal and added an assist Jan. 8 at CAR. His goal marked his 14th tally of the season, the secondmost on Florida. Duclair leads Florida with 13 even-strength goals. He has scored five goals and logged seven points (5-2-7) over his past seven
    contests. The native of Point-Claire, Quebec has recorded 12 points (6-6-11) over his past 13 games.
    BENNY AND THE CATS
    Sam Bennett tallied two goals Jan. 1 vs. MTL, each marking the fastest goal by a Panther to start a game (:32 into the 1st period) and to start a period
    (:15 into 3rd period) this season. Bennett has tallied 11 goals (11-6-17) over 27 games this season, and his three power-play goals are tied for secondmost on the club. He has logged 99 shots on goal in 2021-22, the second-most among Panthers skaters.
    RETURN OF THE MACK
    MacKenzie Weegar notched an assist Jan. 8 at CAR. He scored his second goal of the season and logged a career-high seven shots on goal Jan. 6 at
    DAL. He has produced six points (2-4-6) over his past seven games. He has notched 21 points (2-19-21) this season, which ranks second
    among Florida d-men. His 19 even-strength points (2-17-19) are tied with Aaron Ekblad for most among Panthers blueliners and are tied for the fourthmost of any NHL defenseman this season. The native of Ottawa, Ontario ranks second on FLA with 103 hits, leads the team with 78 blocked shots,
    and owns the second-most takeaways (52) among league skaters this season. Currently sitting at 98 career points (21-77-98), with two more Weegar
    will become the 11th defenseman in franchise history to reach 100 points with the club.
    AGENT CARTER
    Carter Verhaeghe tallied two goals Jan. 8 at CAR, his second multi-goal outing of the season. Verhaeghe notched his team-leading sixth multi-assist
    game of the season Jan. 4 vs. CGY (0-2-2). His performance Jan. 8 at CAR was his eighth multi-point game of the season, tied for the the second-most
    on Florida. All 10 of Verhaeghe’s goals this season have come at even strength, tied for the second-most even-strength tallies on the club.
    FINNISH PHENOM
    Anton Lundell notched two assists (0-2-2) Jan. 11 vs. VAN, his sixth multi-point game of the season. Lundell has produced at least one point in each of
    Florida’s last five home games, the third-longest home point streak by a Panthers rookie in franchise history. He is tied for the league lead among
    rookies with a plus-12 rating and his seven even-strength goals rank tied for second among rookies. Lundell posted at least one point in five consecutive
    games from Dec. 29-Jan. 6 (2-4-6), his longest career point streak. The 20-year-old native of Espoo, Finland leads all NHL forwards with 36 takeaways.
    WHAT ABOUT BOB?
    Sergei Bobrovsky has started each of Florida’s past five games, owning a 4-0-1 record over that span. He owns a 17-3-3 record in 2021-22. He
    stopped 47 of 49 CGY shots Jan. 4, his second-most saves in a regular season game in his career. Bobrovsky has earned wins in seven of his past 10
    starts, and his three regulation losses are tied for the fewest among goaltenders with at least 20 appearances.
    USE THE FORS
    Gustav Forsling has notched one assist in three of his past four games (0-3-3), and six assists (0-6-6) over his past eight games. His 18 assists (0-18-
    18) are the third-most among Florida defensemen this season.
