SUNRISE, Fla. – With over 1,000 votes from the local community, the Florida Panthers Foundation announced today that the winner of their ‘Territory Teammates’ nomination drive presented by Moss Construction is Occupational Therapist John Mandile. Launching in June of 2020, the nomination drive yielded more than 100 local heroes, was narrowed to five finalists and through a vote open to Panthers fans and the community, today’s winner was chosen.

Earlier today, Mandile was surprised at his home with a custom Panthers jersey, 4 Club Lexus tickets for a future Panthers game, a Panthers VIP experience, gift basket and a visit from Stanley C. Panther to congratulate him as the winner of the ‘Territory Teammates’ nomination drive.

“We want to thank all of our nominated heroes and especially our five finalists for their incredible work in South Florida during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Panthers Senior Director of Florida Panthers Foundation & Community Relations John Colombo. “As the Panthers Foundation, we hope that sharing these stories and bringing light to the good that is being done in our community can bring a smile to our Panthers family and encourage kindness throughout Panthers Territory.”

At a time when visiting loved ones during care is a hurdle, Mandile connected his patients with their loved ones using technology and virtual communications and was there for them personally listening to their stories, participating in art and music therapy and more. Read more about his story and other finalists at FloridaPanthers.com/TerritoryTeammates.

The Florida Panthers Foundation supports four main pillars: children’s health & education, growing youth hockey, veterans’ affairs and raising awareness for the endangered Florida panther.
