Florida Panthers Agree to Terms with Goaltender Christopher Gibson on a One-Year, Two-Way Contract


SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Christopher Gibson on a one-year, two-way contract.

Gibson, 28, appeared in two games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020-21, recording a 1-1-0 record, a .875 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average. He also played in two American Hockey League (AHL) games with the Syracuse Crunch, posting a 2-0-0 record, .925 save percentage and 2.51 goals against average.

The 6-foot-2, 217-pound native of Karkkila, Finland has appeared in 16 career NHL games with Tampa Bay (2020-21) and the New York Islanders (2015-16 to 2018-19), registering a 4-5-3 record, .901 save percentage and a 3.33 goals against average.

Over 210 career AHL games with Syracuse (2020-21), the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2015-16 to 2019-20) and the Toronto Marlies (2013-14 to 2014-15), Gibson produced a 107-67-33 record, a .911 save percentage and 2.60 goals against average.

Prior to his professional career, Gibson played four seasons (2009-10 to 2012-13) for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), posting a league-leading .920 save percentage over 37 games played in 2010-11.

On the international stage, Gibson earned a Bronze Medal with Finland at the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championship.

He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (49th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
