Florida Panthers Agree to Terms with Defenseman John Ludvig to a Two-Year, Two-Way Contract

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman John Ludvig on a two-year, two-way contract. 

Ludvig, 22, appeared in 54 regular season games with Florida’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, producing 17 points (3-14-17) in 2022-23. He also skated in seven playoff games registering two points (0-2-2). Ludvig ranked second among all Checkers skaters in plus-minus (+18) and third among skaters in penalty minutes (72).  

The 6-foot-1, 213-pound native of Liberec, Czech Republic amassed 25 points in 70 career AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch (2020-21) and Charlotte Checkers (2021-22 to 2022-23). Prior to his professional career, Ludvig skated for three seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Portland Winterhawks (2017-18 to 2019-20), where he captained the team in his final year.  

He was originally selected by Florida in the third round (69th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
