Florida Gymnast Trinity Thomas Named Co-Winner of 2022 SEC Woman of the Year Award

It’s another honor in a season full of accolades for Florida gymnast Trinity Thomas.

Thomas is one of two representing the Southeastern Conference as nominees for 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. Thomas and Georgia runner Samantha Drop were selected from the 20 female student-athletes nominated by SEC programs.

Thomas is one of 10 gymnasts nominated for the award and one of five nominees to be Honda Award winners for their sport or division.

Today’s conference selections announcement whittles the pool to 156 nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year, which consists of 53 NCAA Division I, 39 DII and DIII 59 student-athletes along with five who compete in a sport not sponsored by the school’s primary conference. A committee now narrows the list to the Top 30 for the NCAA Woman of the Year.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes female student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. This honor acknowledges athletic excellence, academic achievements, community service and leadership.

Thomas graduated cum laude in April of 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology – Fitness Wellness. She began pursuit of master’s in Health Education & Behavior this summer.

About NCAA Woman of the Year
The NCAA Woman of the Year program started in 1991. It honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. To be eligible, a nominee must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have earned her undergraduate degree by summer 2022.

Award Process:

  *   Eligible female student-athletes nominated by their school
  *   School nominations reviewed by their respective conference. The conference finalists are forwarded to NCAA
  *   NCAA Woman of the Year committee narrows list to 30, selecting 10 from each division.
  *   Three finalists for each division for total of nine finalists
  *   NCAA Women’s Athletics committee declares one of the nine finalists the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. The Top 30 honorees are celebrated and the Woman of the Year named at the NCAA Convention.  The 2023 Convention takes place in January in San Antonio.
