BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team salvaged the final game of the series against Western Kentucky on Sunday by a 5-1 tally. The Owls win their 30th game of the season, improving to 30-15 and 12-6 in Conference USA action. The Owls’ 30 wins are the most since the 2018 season.
Florida Atlantic scored first in the top of the fourth inning. Owl shortstop Sommer Baker ripped a two-RBI double to right center field that plated Kaitlyn Cunningham and Riley Olson. The RBIs were Baker’s 11th and 12th of the season.
The Lady Toppers got one run back and were threatening in their half of the fourth inning, but starting pitcher Gabby Sacco limited the damage and kept the Owls in the lead.
FAU built a 5-1 lead with three more runs in the fifth inning. Becca Jones extended the lead to 3-1 with an RBI sacrifice fly. A few batters later, Abby Ota delivered a pinch-hit, two run single to push it to a 5-1 ballgame.
STATS & NOTES
- The Owls out-hit the Lady Toppers by an 8-3 margin
- Eight different Owls recorded hits in Baker, Ota, Zoey Jones, Olivia Peterson, Jesiana Mora, Riley Ennis, Olson and Becca Jones
- Sacco got the win to improve her impressive record to 18-4, which leads C-USA
- Ainsley Lambert delivered a scoreless last three innings and did not allow a hit
HOME NEXT WEEKEND
FAU will return to Paradise for its final home series of the 2023 season against North Texas from April 28-30.
