Florida Atlantic Takes Series Over FIU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team won game two of the Sunshine State Series against FIU by a 1-0 tally on Friday. The Owls capture the weekend series against the Panthers and improve to 25-13 on the season and 7-4 in Conference USA action.

Much like Thursday night’s game, game two served to be a pitcher’s duel. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, Riley Olson lifted a solo home run to right field off the scoreboard, which proved to be enough. Olson was the hero in last night’s game, delivering the walk-off single in the 10th inning.

Lynn Gardner got the start and delivered two scoreless innings, then Ainsley Lambert came out of the bullpen and finished the game with five scoreless innings. Lambert earned her fourth win of the season, striking out five and walking none down the stretch.

STATS & NOTES

  • Olson went 2-2 at the plate today, with a double off the center field wall in addition to her solo home run
  • The solo shot was her second round-tripper of the year
  • Riley EnnisJesiana Mora and Caryssa Orland each recorded a hit
  • Today’s shutout marks the Owls’ eighth of the season, and their pitching staff now has a team ERA of 2.12, which is good for second in C-USA

GAME THREE TOMORROW

The Owls and Panthers will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
