Florida Atlantic Enjoys a Special Performance

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Gabby Sacco cemented her name in the Florida Atlantic University record book Saturday morning, pitching a no hitter in FAU’s 3-0 win over Illinois State. It was the 27th no-no in the program’s history. Sacco becomes the 11th Owl pitcher to join the list.

The second game was more great pitching, splendid defense and the bats came alive collecting 12 hits and seven runs in the 7-0 nightcap win versus Penn.

GAME ONE

The Owls scored the only run they would need in the first. Leadoff hitter Cammeo Presutti cracked a single to left, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Sara Berthiaume. FAU would hold that 1-0 lead through the third inning and would add two more in the bottom of the fourth. Becca Jones got the rally rolling with a one-out single. Riley Ennis reached base following an Illinois State error and Maya Amm, pinch running for Jones, and Kaitlyn Cunningham, running for Ennis, were driven in by a Joey Jones single and heads-up base running.

While the offense was key, Sacco controlled Penn’s offense with five strikeouts. Sacco just missed the perfect game surrendering a walk to the first batter of the seventh.

NOTES/NOTABLES

  • Presutti was 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Berthiaume also was 2-for-3 and drove in a run
  • The Jones (Becca and Zoey) earned the remaining two hits

GAME TWO

FAU scored two in the first and one in the second to take charge of the Penn game early. The Owls were held scoreless in the third and scored in each of the next two frames and two runs in the six for the 7-0 final.

Senior Lynn Gardner held down the circle with six-scoreless innings of three hit ball. She tallied six strikeouts before giving way to Summer Clark, who closed out the game. Clark retired two by strikeout, bringing the staff’s total to eight.

NOTES/NOTABLES

  • The Owls’ first three hitters, Presutti, Jesiana Mora and Berthiaume were 2-for-4 each and both were credited with an RBI
  • Olivia Peterson was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Zoey Jones was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI
